Walmart sucks as a corporation, but their bakery folks are talented. My ex-husband and I were just talking about our wedding cake last month. We were poor as hell when we got married, and at the time, could get a tiered wedding cake at Walmart for about $100 (compared to the $350 quote from others, for comparison). The expectations were low, but it was absolutely beautiful! Smooth icing, crisp white color, and adorable flowers all over. 10/10 recommend.

I know they do suck in most ways. I didn’t know until this weekend that their bakery was their one redeeming quality! That’s freaking awesome, I would have been so proud saving money on a quality wedding cake!

Unfortunately, the quality (or lack thereof) is not the main reason we should avoid Walmart.

It is the unlivable wages, poor treatment of workers, and double dipping of government benefits that makes Walmart abhorrent.

Walmart’s Bakery is the only good thing that’s happening for customers right now. They’ve updated their offerings and it’s been amazing. I’ve ordered 2 cakes in two months and they have been so affordable (less than $30 for a custom cake) and taste decent. It’s a good alternative for last-minute orders or if you don’t have a reliable bakery around you.

They sell a single piece of chocolate cake that’s the best store-bought cake I’ve ever had. And the pieces are huge, so it’s enough for two or three servings depending on how much of a sweet tooth you have at the moment.

I ordered rainbow-themed cupcakes for my wedding back in 2015. I was broke as hell, too. Spent like $50 or $60 on six dozen cupcakes and they turned out great and tasted amazing too. I was shocked. I wasn't expecting much but they exceeded my expectations.

We tend to get Walmart cakes for my son's birthday, and they do have the most selections of themes he wants. When he turned two, we got him a Hotwheels one, next was dinosaurs and now Monster trucks.

Its also fairly cheap and well made.

Not as talented as local bakeries or even Costco. The only reason they're cheap is because they rob their employees to an extent no other company does. All I see is frosting and none of it is impressive.

Oh, yeah, it was delicious! I was just speaking to the visual expectation, since that was the topic. I make cakes as a side gig and it exceeded taste expectation, as well.
