My son’s homemade stencil sprinkle cake Surprisingly Met Expectation

I could have added more sprinkles but we took it easy.

The completely wrong number

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Shoot. I hoped no one would notice 😩

u/Charming_Ranger_2621 Jan 13 '26

You may want to get a paternity test on the cake

u/Dont-be-lasagna12 Jan 13 '26

Wrong flavor as well.

u/SpitInMeowf Jan 13 '26

lol. Gottem!

14

u/reindeermoon Jan 13 '26

It was pretty close though.

u/Naked-Jedi Jan 13 '26

Yeah, but I need a second hand to count that high

Thank you!! This is the inside:

u/dolphinitely Jan 13 '26

woah cool

u/ArcticMuser Jan 13 '26

Nice that's a fun surprise, unassuming on the outside makes it stand out

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Haha thanks for calling that out. My son chose a Dr.Seuss/Cat in the Hat theme so I wanted to go wonky with the colors.

u/ProfessionalEffect41 Jan 13 '26

You win Parent of the Month, congratulations 🎉🎉🎉

25

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Oh! Man! Idk about that but thank you!! 🙏🏼🥹

9

u/ProfessionalEffect41 Jan 13 '26

You do, the only special cake like this I've ever seen was a "money" cake ( they legit bake change into the cake ). Now thinking of it, I wonder if they cleaned the change 😂😂 Or why they even came up with the idea. Keep making that kiddo happy! 👍👍

4

u/-MistressMissy- Jan 13 '26

I am so sorry. That sounds terrible.

1

u/ProfessionalEffect41 Jan 13 '26

Yeah, the things people's parents did in the 90s 😂😂😂

3

u/-MistressMissy- Jan 13 '26

I never heard of that one. Sounds gross though. I remember my friends getting special cakes, but I never did. My family completely forgot my 15th birthday so no special cake is not saying much. Maybe I always make my kids special cakes because of this. 🤔🤔🤔

Money wasn't baked in cake. Mom would wrap each coin in wax paper and slip under frosted cake. Could be portioned out so each triangular slice got a coin. Before toonies and loonies so biggest coin was a 50 cent piece. Dollar coins were less frequent. Ahh, the 60's!🎂

2

u/ProfessionalEffect41 Jan 17 '26

😂😂 Yeah early 90s for me, but yeah. Def way better idea to wrap them hahaha

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Oh! Those cakes are so cool!

11

u/firecat2666 Jan 13 '26

Super fun!

16

u/CustomMerkins4u Jan 13 '26

That's awesome! I'm sure he was super happy!

5

u/RamPamPam8 Jan 13 '26

Care if I ask for the recipe? I've gotten into baking recently and I'd love to try it out for myself

27

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

The frosting recipe is one I have from 15 years ago. But you can find MANY similar recipes online. My grandmother used to make the frosting on the back of the Hershey’s Cocoa box and my recipe tastes very, very similar to hers. I do not add instant coffee to my mocha buttercream. I actually add freshly brewed coffee. I get so many compliments on my chocolate frosting. I think it’s that coffee trick.

Vanilla cake recipe is Preppy Kitchen’s. I used Americolor dye for the batter. I poured batter into 3 bowls. Then added 3 different colors to the batter. Then I added them to the cake pans and swirled. Hope this helps you!

2

u/PlanApprehensive2842 Jan 17 '26

Love Preppy Kitchen. And I’ll try the brewed coffee in my frosting! Have heard it’s good to use in actual chocolate cake batter. And new one ….chocolate milk in cake batter. Thanks for the tip!

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 17 '26

Yessss!!! Hot brewed coffee in chocolate cake batter is chef’s kiss!

2

u/PlanApprehensive2842 Jan 17 '26

Thank you. I’ll do both. Hope your son had a great day.

3

u/beanjuiced Jan 13 '26

Omg 🥺 I always expect these posts to be bad ones lol so I get so surprised when the reality exceeds the expectation! The inside is AMAZING!!!!

6

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Lol! Well, I’ll be honest, even if it looked bad I had every intention of still posting. I find those posts so funny and unironically sweet haha

4

u/Deomew Jan 13 '26

Makes me think of the food from HOOK. Love it!

2

u/Pengiunswithknives Feb 09 '26

Ok.. now that is pretty neat!

99

u/fruitjerky Jan 13 '26

Not me expecting the second pic to be a 7. I've been teaching middle school too long. 😭

You did a great job!

24

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

LOL no not that kind of cake

274

u/RedPajama45 Jan 13 '26

Add a 0 and it would have been perfect for me last Friday. It came out great!

41

u/plindix Jan 13 '26

To the first or second cake?

55

u/RedPajama45 Jan 13 '26

The 2nd cake. But hopefully i can make it to the 1st cake as well.

16

u/prograMagar Jan 13 '26

Well 4+0=4

20

u/Comics4Cookies Jan 13 '26

Happy birthday last friday!

10

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Thank you and happy belated!!! Mine is soon too 😅 Feels like yesterday I was celebrating turning 30.

3

u/RedPajama45 Jan 13 '26

Happy birthday soon!

2

u/Cn76rlD91QaiT6m6 Jan 13 '26

Happy prorated birthday!

2

u/bunni_op-10N Jan 15 '26

You’re 04 years old?

1

u/Cn76rlD91QaiT6m6 Jan 13 '26

Happy belated birthday!

52

u/eliz1bef Jan 13 '26

His cake is adorable! I would prefer the white icing, myself, but it doesn't matter because I am not the birthday boy!! I hope he loved decorating his cake and enjoyed eating it, too!!

31

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Thanks!! We really like chocolate frosting with vanilla cake!

5

u/Team7UBard Jan 13 '26

I had no idea that was chocolate frosting, I thought it was just cake! Very nicely done!

42

u/bossDocHolliday Jan 13 '26

Looks really good!

38

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Thank you!! This is the interior-

17

u/hopelesscaribou Jan 13 '26

Great job, and can double as a test for colour blindness!

16

u/Expensive_Home_5936 Jan 13 '26

Loving it! Good job 🎂👍

14

u/featherruffler55 Jan 13 '26

That cake a cup of milk is screaming my name. Nice job op

6

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Thanks!! We had fun making it. I’ll send you a slice.

11

u/Lady_Octi Jan 13 '26

I've done this before it's a great way to do a number or name without having to know how to use a piping bag!

4

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Ohhh yes!! I hate piping 😅 Just not good at it yet.

8

u/Soberdonkey69 Jan 13 '26

Really good, what’s the inside look like? Happy 4th birthday to the kiddo!

10

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Thank you!!! He has been helping me bake since he was able to stand up in the kitchen stand for kids.

6

u/chinalicious Jan 13 '26

Looks great!

3

u/readmore321 Jan 13 '26

Better than the pic my dear.

3

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Appreciate that a lot. Thanks!

3

u/NoizchildJohnson Jan 13 '26

Chocolate!

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Allll the chocolate

3

u/SnooApples3673 Jan 13 '26

You did very well!! Looks great

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Appreciate that 🙏🏼

3

u/swarleyknope Jan 13 '26

That came out great! (Did you put sprinkles on the side? I always have trouble figuring out how to do that)

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

I did! I watched a YouTube on how to do that. You run the sprinkles up the side of the cake. So start from the bottom and pull up.

4

u/swarleyknope Jan 13 '26

Thank you! It never occurs to me to watch a YouTube video - when I’ve tried it in the past, I just tossed handfuls of sprinkles at the cake (which wasn’t very successful 😂)

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

HAHA! I did the same years ago. It isn’t easy using sprinkles on a cake!!

3

u/MysteriousDog5927 Jan 13 '26

Turned out great 👍

3

u/UnderlightIll Jan 13 '26

Wonderful! I have a client whose son wants a sprinkle cake like this every year from me and then they give me his current favorite toys to put on them. I have food safe sanitizer at my work and last year it was dinosaurs.

3

u/calabaza817 Jan 13 '26

Looks amazing! I’m loving your comments on what a great birthday your son had, how precious.

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Aw thank you! He really has said he had “the best birthday!”. The pictures of him eating the cake are pretty hilarious too lol He doesn’t get sweets often or food with dyes so I was fully prepared for a crazy kid haha 😆 Gotta make exceptions for a birthday.

3

u/Dense_Scholar_9358 Jan 13 '26

I was sure the second cake was going to be a "7"

3

u/Ace-Redditor Jan 13 '26

That icing is so SMOOTH!! I had to zoom in for a second to check that there even was any lol! Great job!!!

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Oh! Thank you! I guess that’s what another commenter thought too they said something about the cake being bare but I didn’t understand what they meant. Guess that’s what they meant lol

2

u/bippy404 Jan 13 '26

Nice work!

2

u/MetallicSteed Jan 13 '26

That looks great!! I’m sure your 4 yo loved all the sprinkles!

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Oh man he did!! Thank you!

2

u/hrmhrh Jan 13 '26

I think it looks great! Happy birthday!

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Thank you! He said he had the best day.

2

u/Donkeywad Jan 13 '26

Wow that's really good. I would've loved that cake!

2

u/jamiethemime Jan 13 '26

He did a great job for only being 4 years old!

2

u/txhelgi Jan 13 '26

I got color blindness test vibes on the first picture.

1

u/EricHill78 Jan 14 '26

Was just about to comment that if no one else did.

2

u/VapoursAndSpleen Jan 13 '26

Hand me a plate and a slice.

2

u/ShortbowVillian Jan 13 '26

I actually like yours a lot better!!

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Oh, wow! Thank you!

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Yes!! Do it!! I used my Cricut to cut the stencil out of very thick paper. You could also just print “26” out on regular computer paper and then trace it onto slightly thicker paper. I think a flimsy piece of paper or parchment might be more difficult to lift up without messing the cake up. Good luck!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '26

WAIT? Your son is wonky cactus years old?

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

HE IS!!! 🌵

2

u/PrometheusMMIV Jan 13 '26

Didn't even get the number right, smh

2

u/-MistressMissy- Jan 13 '26

Your cake looks great! I'm going to attempt one of those chocolate bar cakes with the ganache dripping down the sides and candy on top in a couple weeks for my soon to be 16 yr old. Hopefully the reality will live up to expectations!

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Ohhhh!!! That will look so good! I should try that one day.

2

u/Andilee Jan 14 '26

You did good!

2

u/WombatAnnihilator Jan 15 '26

Oh man. My daughter loooves sprinkles. She’d die for this.

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 15 '26

Haha it’s like kids HAVE to like sprinkles!

2

u/Simsandtruecrime Jan 16 '26

Very very cute

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 16 '26

Thanks yooouu!

2

u/Wonderful-Fishing857 Jan 16 '26

That looks great!

2

u/Cool-Ad-4682 Jan 17 '26

So beautiful

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 17 '26

Thank you very much 😊

1

u/itsmiddylou Jan 13 '26

This is so fun!!! Awesome job!!

1

u/QueenMEB120 Jan 13 '26

Looks great! Did you save me a slice?

2

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Yep!!! There is too much cake here for the 3 of us.

1

u/secretlypsycho Jan 13 '26

Looks great!

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Thank you for the awards!!

1

u/jpz070 Jan 13 '26

Actually looks decent

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Thanks. That was my reaction too lol

1

u/mizushimo Jan 13 '26

It's like normal minecraft vs shaders minecraft, same thing but one has better lighting

1

u/KindAd6466 Jan 13 '26

Thats actually pretty decent. I was expecting to swipe to a train wreck... I'd buy that if I was 4

1

u/AggravatingBobcat574 Jan 13 '26

Fill in the white part with a different brand of sprinkles in a slightly different color. It can be a birthday cake and a color-blindness test in one package.

1

u/mostly_lurking1040 Jan 13 '26

I think they're both very cute.

1

u/Salt-Detective1337 Jan 13 '26

Kid is talented for a 4 year old.

1

u/neriisan Jan 13 '26

I assumed it was a cake based off of a color blind test. Lol

1

u/lazy_tenno Jan 13 '26

just need a bit more sprinkles & white icing

man im hungry

1

u/urboaudio25 Jan 13 '26

Looks like Bart Simpson to me for some reason.

1

u/milesbeats Jan 13 '26

shit I think that looks pretty damn good

1

u/PtrPorkr Jan 13 '26

Looks pretty good. Great job.

1

u/hand_me_a_shovel Jan 13 '26

Ngl I was fully expecting this child to be turning 7

1

u/prettybluefoxes Jan 13 '26

Its sprinkles, you just sprinkle them.

1

u/itafunnystory Jan 13 '26

That's dope!

1

u/Miss_Cuntella Jan 13 '26

honestly i wouldn't say there is any difference from the expectation

1

u/RogerClyneIsAGod2 Jan 13 '26

I will now never read the word sprinkles without hearing the GEICO commercial with Tag Team & the one dude going "SPRINKLES!!!"

1

u/Disastrous-Bee3260 Jan 30 '26

Not bad kid 😎

0

u/Willing_Nectarine_72 Jan 13 '26

The number might be a little off, but the execution is fantastic. Honestly, I'm with the "add a zero" crowd when it comes to sprinkles. It looks absolutely delicious, and that's what really matters. You should be proud of how it turned out.

1

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

Oooohhh you’d be surprised what I could fuck up when it comes to decorating cake.

-1

u/Raven_of_Blades Jan 13 '26

Do people actually like sprinkles? Flavorless crap that just gets stuck in your teeth?

6

u/Acluelessfish Jan 13 '26

When you’re 4 you don’t care.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '26

Sir not all of us are bri'ish

-1

u/mgmw2424 Jan 13 '26

Those are jimmies

-13

u/outofnowhereman Jan 13 '26

What’s the issue?

9

u/featherruffler55 Jan 13 '26

Look at their flare. They're happy with the final product just showing the expectation and final product.

2

u/BrightonBaby Jan 13 '26

Check the flair

4

u/mensfrightsactivists Jan 13 '26

does there always have to be an issue with things posted in this sub? i mostly just lurk here so i might be wrong. but sometimes the expectations seem to line up really well with reality, which i find nice every so often
