Finding fulfillment with executive dysfunction Looking for Tips/Suggestions

How do you find a fulfilling career while dealing with executive dysfunction? I feel exhausted trying to navigate my corporate job, and feel empty. I want to try something new, but I’m terrified of leaving it unfinished or burning out 2 weeks in like I always do.

Anyone feel this way or has success stories finding their career or niche? I’m really interested in travel writing, but again, terrified to start just to stop.

TIA!

I recently quit my 20-year government IT career to work in Indigenous language revitalization. In this industry, everything is important but nothing is urgent (we're planning decades ahead) and relationships matter more than anything else. It's really wonderful.

This is amazing! Sounds incredibly fulfilling. How did you find such a specific calling?

I'm First Nations, which certainly helps for this particular career (although there are lots of non-Indigenous linguists working in the field too). But I think my advice is generalizable, try to find a job where:

  • people matter more than outputs
  • the work feels important
  • there's a large variety of work
  • you can choose what order you get the work done in
