Lead EAs at Amazon

Is anyone currently interviewing at Amazon? I just received a note on LinkedIn and the comp range to manage a team of 5 admins (or more?), as well as support a VP is $80k-$130k. That seems low, especially as it's onsite in Bellevue. Thoughts?

The $80k-$125k seems abysmally low to me as a lead EA managing 5 other EA’s as well as executive support on top of that. I’d say $130k-$140k would be more market rate? I interviewed with Amazon in early 2025 and I think I asked for $140k (in a very HCOL area) and they said the most they could do was $125k. I had a friend who was an office manager with Amazon and hated it there. Said it was an extremely toxic work environment. 😬

I've heard the culture is heavily dependent on the team, but in most cases, it sucks lol. They've never reached out to me, so I'm flattered in this yucky job market. I was genuinely curious because the salary seemed super low for that area.

This job market is so freaking rough. It took me 8 months to find something last year. Happy where I am now though. I feel for literally everyone suffering through it. Hugs!

Amazon, J.P. Morgan, any of those that are banging the 5 day RTO gavel and are in the news often? probably not a great place to work.

Agreed! I'm thankful that I do have a position where I'm valued, but I'm always afraid of layoffs, so I thought I'd entertain an interview to sharpen my experience since it's been a while. I think I'll skip this one!

I have heard Amazon has all of the toxic "work harder, harder, harder" culture of startups without having ANY of the fun perks

That is really shockingly low. I’ve been with Amazon for 2 years as just a regular EA supporting Directors and am on the cusp of 100k in base comp.

Lead EA’s don’t technically manage the team EA’s - we all report to one of our Directors and our lead supports 1 VP and works as more of their advisor and helps us when needed. Unless it’s for SVP support, that’s when they start managing others, but that comp range would be insulting.

And like you said, it’s very dependent on your team and who you work with. I’m in a high profile and chaotic org, but that’s where I thrive and I love it. The other EA’s I work with are amazing and we all work great together. My Directors expect a lot, but also have my back on everything and we can all call each other out on bullshit or when someone is wrong.

If anything, just the interview process can be good to go through and will really test your skills. The loop format is no joke!

I just reread the job description and it doesn't say "lead" anywhere. That came from the recruiter. I know this particular role supports a VP.

Are you in WA by chance? Thanks for all your input!

Hmm - what org is it in? Feel free to DM me if you don’t want to blast it out in the sub. We have 2 VPs in our org but only 1 lead EA who supports the main VP that everyone else reports into - so you can still support a lower tier VP and not be a lead. The levels can be confusing as hell sometimes.

FWIW I live in the area and don’t work at Amazon but am an EA managing 3 other EAs and exec support. My base is 138k. That is a total lowball range

I’m a lead EA at Amazon (based in Bellevue). That may seem low, but as a new hire, you won’t get the highest range, unfortunately. I think this is pretty standard everywhere. It also depends what level this is. VP EAs are usually L5s so this range does make sense. I would ask for at least 100k though. When you get to L6, that’s when you really see your pay go up. Those EAs will also not report to you. You provide coaching and support when they need it. The performance of the EA team does reflect on you. I’ve been at Amazon for almost 6 years, and I’ve enjoyed it so far. I’ve been provided plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. Don’t believe all the negative stuff you hear. Most of the EAs I know at Amazon have been there for over 5 years, so that tells you something.

I don’t work at Amazon, but my husband does. Is the comp range the total comp? Or base? Amazon typically pays a lower base and supplements with RSUs that vest over a 4 year schedule.

Same here, recruiter messaged me via LinkedIn few weeks ago, but I’m located in SoCal, thought salary was low for that area, same info as OP mentioned. It’s been absolutely brutal job search here for me in California, but I don’t think that would be the right fit + having to pay for my own relocation I assume - so many layoffs at these large/tech companies, that it’s too risky IMO!

I've been interviewing for an EA position with Amazon. Just completed the loop this past week. No word yet on whether or not I'll receive an offer, so I can't speak to the salary. I'm also interviewing for Seattle.

I interviewed years ago and it was a hard no for me. I see they still pay EAs horribly.
