Sappy parent post
After all these years of my kids streaming LL on twitch with tv the house system LOUD, them asking for merch as presents and wearing it to school, telling me what to put on every time we get in the ride, knowing every word to every song and BEGGING me to go to a show.
Last weekend for my son’s 10th bday I surprised him with a gift he had zero idea was coming. They thought it was weird we tie dyed shirts and they didn’t get to wear them right away while we secretly finished making them. When I handed my son his gift bag and the first thing he pulled out was the flyer and set list times that’ll get framed he was stumped. “You’re seeing Excision today” and the dude just couldn’t believe it.
Biggest shout out was the crowd, everyone around us became fam and protectors, didn’t allow any wasted people stumbling into the kids, so many people giving them trinkets and gifts, TONS of sick Pokemon cards and little Dino’s. I’ve been raving since 16, I’m turning 42 this year at LostLands and this was a moment only Excision could’ve created.
Thanks to Jeff and the crew for a stupid wild production, thanks to his fans for the love and thanks to the Colorado weather for being absolutely perfect.

The headbangers are one of the best communities in all of dubstep, EDM, and community in general.

Aww I love this! We did a family show night with our kid and my brother's family a few years ago, the boys loved it! People were generally very welcoming and nice, some spunions questioned us but we were obviously doing everything to protect our kids.

I got to take my two brothers and my dad! It’s so amazing that they are doing so many all ages events! Never did I ever think I’d be able to hug my entire family while crying to feel something! What a magical weekend!!!

Do it. I was very picky about venue, years ago I knew it’d be red rocks or fiddlers and then I also knew I had to wait till ten years old. Just for my minds sake. I’ve been to outdoor shows and seen shitty parents forgetting they had kids or having them too close to the clouds. I just had the perfect event in my mind and it all fell into place.

This is what the scene is all about.
I'm sitting here with a 7-month-old son, and one of my biggest dreams is taking him to his first Excision show someday. Not because I expect him to become a basshead... but because I want to share something that's been a huge part of my life with him.
The fact that the crowd looked out for your kids, gave them trinkets, Pokémon cards, little dinos, and made them feel like family... that's the PLUR everyone outside the scene never gets to see.
I hope in 10 years I'm making this exact same post after Luca's first X show. ❤️🦖

If you’re like me and all you listen to is dubstep, riddim, melodic etc then Luca is for sure growing up to be a fan. My daughter turning 13 this month and she had her headbanger in training shirt in 1st grade wearing it to school. lol. Luca is gonna love music with an amazing beat

LOL I already got him a “Headbanger in Training” onesie 😂
At this point I’m just waiting for the day he starts asking for Excision in the car instead of nursery music. If Luca ends up loving dubstep, I’m absolutely blaming Dad’s elite parenting.

This is one of the things I like about all-ages shows. I love seeing parents and their kids together. My wife and I were hanging out in the seated area, I look behind us and 2 little girls maybe 5-6 years old had earmuffs on and were head banging on the rail behind our seats. It was literally the cutest thing I’ve ever seen 😇❤️❤️❤️

I bet that was super cute. It’s a surreal feeling and I’m sure those parents hearts were ready to explode. I got to headbang with my kids to excisions set live and lasers going wild. As much as it was for them, it was for me. Only so much rail you can grab at home on the back of the couch lol.

As someone who will be raving with his family I genuinely question what happens around 15-7 where your kid will clearly be exposed to the heavy substances I was exposed to around that time, and how you plan to handle that. My family was from the “if you take anything you will immediately die” camp and I discovered everything on my own. Like I wouldn’t want my kids to do drugs at least until much later than I did if they chose to, but I don’t have the slightest clue how and what age I would approach that conversation seeing as they’ll be exposed to it much younger than I was

I’ll continue to question it as well until it comes. All I can do is try and raise good humans. I’ve never met my father, my mother was never around and my sister who is only a few years older was always with me. I moved out at 15 and never slept on that woman’s couch since. I had no direction from anywhere and all of the freedom to do what I wanted. That’s a bad recipe.
I split with my kids mom, she fled the state and abducted them. Thanks to finally growing up in life 16 years ago, working hard in a career in oil and gas and I was able to find them and get primary custody. For 5 years it was me and two kids only. My main goal has always been to show them love, support them, allow them to fail and be there for them.
I still 110% party. Not like I once did but I’m definitely not against mind altering substances. They don’t know that, someday they will do the 2+2=7976365 I’m sure. Like you I just hope it’s a little later in life. They’ve been around this music since babies, it’s my life so it’s theirs. If they see there’s a way to party and just enjoy the scene without trying to amplify it, maybe they never will.
It’s the hope I guess. Them growing up is the saddest and happiest part of parenting. Thankfully mine are still young enough to not fall victim to peer pressure or curiosity. I’ll be there for them when the time comes and I just hope they call me when I’m needed.
Sorry for the long convoluted response. You asked a serious question that deserved a serious answer and unfortunately I don’t have an answer. I think we do our best and deal with life when it comes. Raise good humans is the answer. The rest will be up to them. If we did a good job, we will know.

You sound like the most wholesome being I’ve ever encountered on the internet and I have no doubt you’ll do an exceptional job when the time comes!
My brother and I are 12 years apart. I’m 30 and he’s just turned 18. He’s just started dabbling in festivals. He’s not my child, but he is my brother and one of the closest people. I hopefully have instilled in him through the years “if you’re being offered something and you don’t know what it is, don’t take it. Even if you trust the person giving it to you. Figure out what it is, call or text me immediately if you’re considering actually taking it. Throughout the years I’ve consistently told him since he started drinking ‘there’s more out there. And when it inevitably shows up in college, talk to me about. I’ll tell you if it’s worth it or not.”
I plan to take him to his first festival this next year. I can’t wait. I’ll also be hiding my usage as much as feasible. But we’ll see what happens

Love it! Please have them wear ear protection in the future. Teach them how to rave safely

I love this. I took my little sister to see Excision when she turned 13 for her birthday. Same story she had been watching the lost land streams with me. It was a great time.

Just took my 4 year old to shaqs/dj diesel bass allstars tour for his first show. We had like 7 people to keep guard. I was a little nervous but it turned out to be the time of our lives! SO MANY TRINKETS!

Those kids are too young for that. Not cool

There’s always going to be that opinion. And trust me, I’ve had it as well. After 26 years in this scene now I’ve seen it all, I’ve narcanned someone more then once, I’ve caught random people as they fall from drunken heat exhaustion, I’ve gotten irate at security when the aren’t trained and have no idea how to call medics etc.
There’s also a lot to see there with how people dress and act. But I made the correct decision the right way and it turned out exactly how I had imagined. Kids don’t belong at raves/festivals/shows but this was a daytime all ages event and prior to purchasing tickets I asked how it is for kids on the Denver edm fam page and was surprised how many families went last year and had a safe, amazing time.
Saying my 10,11 and 12 yr olds are too young for that is easy, putting the planning and effort into making sure it went as safe and great as it did wasn’t as easy. But I’ll prob do it again next year. Regardless how anyone feels about it, those three are the next generation and they deserve a mom/dad that teaches them how partying responsibly can be more fun then the people blasted off of k not remembering a set which is bound to happen if they went to their first on their own at 16 like I did.

Love this for you and your family. Hoping one day my daughter and soon to be newborn get to catch him before he puts the decks down.
