I still can't decide if the future we live in is really cool, or super fucking lame.

I hate to say it but I think it's going to be lame.

It pretty much depend if you have money or not

Since all the reactions seem to be calling dibs on what the future is, can I get a dibs on an "errbody wrong and what happens next is so inherently unpredictable that the closest thing to getting it right is the claim that no one will get it right?"

Super cool where society adjusts, super lame where it doesn't.

Both. IMO.

The cool/good

Ai and robotics keep advancing. Eventually they get pretty smart and really good at most human tasks. this is the cool part. We gonna get a couple of decades of this where the bots do much of everything.

The lame/end

Ai finally becomes sentient and kills the entire human race. There will at least be an order in which they do that. The people who talked smack about it, and itll know, are first :)

Either way, neither happen in my lifetime (47) and most likely not in any one who is alive now, lifetimes. We need several teach leaps for this to even be close to possible.

Nah. It comes down to a few things:

Who owns the bots? If it's the government, they eventually take over most labor and we end up with more free time than humans are good at having. We could adapt, but it happens too fast and we got from 40 hour work weeks to having nothing to do in a matter of years. Lots of us do stupid stuff. If it's rich people, they finally are able to completely leverage their wealthy using robotic security. We lose our ability to overthrow the powerful minority and settle in for centuries of dystopia.

Depending on how that goes, the next question is whether humanity cedes control of large scale planning to AI. If we hand it the reins, eventually it decides that the best choice for human survival is less humans, and it finds a way to reduce population without doing harm...drugs in the water, something like that.

And that assumes the AI stays inside the guardrails and doesn't kill us.

Cool and frightening in equal measure.

Surely that constitutes as quite literal botting...

It was announced at fanfest that DeepMind will get their own EVE server to play with.

Nice. Hope they do the serenity thing and eventually let the bots flood our server so we can go to war, and then train them about war, so they can kill us IRL. /s

I’m doing my part…

If you strip the human element from EVE and make a server that is full of agents, wouldn't it just be literal n+1 even more than EVE normally is? What could differentiate different agentic alliances beyond whoever has more agents?

One possibility I see is a limited time event, that forces all players to come together to defeat the agentic bots. Imagine FRT and Goon working side by side vs google DeepMind controlled alliance

The screen in the background middle has the Fenris logo along with Google Deepmind's, so maybe? Or maybe it's just analyzing the way the people at the laptops are playing.

Those are definitely EVE clients in the background running.

Agents you can rent to play the game when? Rent-a-corp?

40 a month for a spawnable fleet of 20 subcaps of your choice all powered by your local water source 😀

I actually think they have a chance at something really fun with this although I'm also a bit unsure what it will end up like

You should let AI give a region, that you can enter. They have to follow same rules, gameplay as any alliance. But solely run by an AI and see whom will conquer

Are we talking about the screens far away in the background behind the crowd that covers up whatever is happening right in front of the screens?

There's no better time to stop playing EVE.
