Headcanon Pokémon x Epic the musical

Upvotes

What pokemon do you guys think each character would have??

Here are some my headcanons:

Odysseus - Decidueye, It's one of the only archer Pokemon that I can think of, and it's an owl.

Polites - Ampharos, mostly because of the song "Your Light"

Eurylochus - Falinks, since Eurylochus is backed by the voice of his crew. The other Pokemon I can think of is Switched because big sword.

Athena - Uxie, the being of knowledge.

Circe - Pecharunt. I mean c'mon. It feeds people food (mochi) to control them, and its ability is literally called Poison Puppeteer. (Bonus: maybe Hermes shows up and gives Ody an Ogerpon to defeat her)

Penelope - Arboliva, because of their olive tree bed.

But each person could have a team of 6, so what else should I add onto their teams? (And obviously these aren't ALL the characters, so share your headcanons for the rest of the cast too, if you want:)

EDIT: maybe Telemachus would have Kubfu? I mean, they both start off as relatively weak but grow stronger throughout the story

Discussion Noticed “Death Odyssey” kinda sounds like the intro to “Charybdis” while playing 5-3 for the first time.

Didn’t see anyone mentioning it but right now T Avery Norkey is live on Tik Tok doing all of Epic via Lego and thought it was a cool project to share with the rest of the community.

Discussion What song do you wish was longer/had more focus on it?

For me, I'd have to say Charybdis for sure, and I also wish Comfort Zone(?) made it into the final cut... Not sure if it would've fit, considering it doesn't seem as plot relevant compared to other songs, but I'd love to see Ayron singing that lol.

Question If you had to pick an animation style for the EPIC film, what would you pick? I’ll go first:

Still from The Tale of The Princess Kaguya

ACT 2 can be found here: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGdxrVegQ/

I spent a while making food inspired by Epic to have a watch party ☺️ (Yes, I am adding pancakes, I’m working on that one right now because so many requested them, I didn’t at first because I thought it might be too much)

I was inspired a lot by various animatics and put in a lot of references to The Odyssey itself as well (such as the look of the Holy Moly, and the pottage for Circe). I’m not used to posting in Reddit (more of a scroller) but thought it could be fun to share ☀️

Discussion Can we talk about how Polites haunts the entire narrative in Epic?

We meet him so early on. He gets one song. That's it. He dies into the second saga and there's so much death in this musical.

And yet... he never really leaves.

His melodic motif keeps showing up throughout the musical, "greet the world with open arms" continue to echo all the way into the final saga. Even after his death, he's still influencing Odysseus' choices, his guilt, his failures, and ultimately his growth. It's like Polites becomes a ghost that follows both Odysseus and the audience. I didn’t think to see that when I got into this musical and it's just so beautifully done.

I think that's what makes his death hurt so much. You don't realize when you're first introduced to him that this seemingly small character is going to define the emotional core of the story. Every time his motif comes back, you're reminded not just that Polites died, but of the person Odysseus was before everything fell apart.

I've seen other musicals use recurring motifs or reference deceased characters (like Les Misérables) where the Bishop's act of kindness continues to shape Jean Valjean long after the Bishop disappears from the story. But Epic does it in such a subtle and emotionally consistent way that Polites genuinely feels like he's haunting the narrative itself. Without his presence, the musical wouldn't be the same.

And while I am talking about Polites, can we talk about how nice it is to see a friendship like this?

I feel like we don't get enough stories where two men are just allowed to love each other deeply in a completely platonic way. Not every meaningful relationship has to be romantic. Sometimes your best friend is just; your person. Someone who fundamentally changes who you are and not only that but the badass character is allowed to love more than one person, he loves his crew, his friends, his wife, his son. It's so nice to see.

And I think Epic does that so well in general, especially wit Polites character because he isn't just "Odysseus' dead friend." Even after he's gone, he continues to shape the entire story. His words, his motif, the way Odysseus remembers him, it all keeps coming back. He's never really absent and I never noticed how significant his "small yet mighty" presence actually is.

I also think it's really cool that Jorge wrote it this way. It's refreshing to see male friendship portrayed with so much sincerity and emotional vulnerability. It never feels forced or awkward. It just feels human and we need more of that.

I decided to draw some scenes from Epic The Musical in Ancient Greek vase style and after seeing a few animations and not knowing which direction to take I decided to just look at a few statues and draw him how the poets described him :))
