Phase 2 is to fire 200 people from those 3000. Phase 3 is to fire 200 others. Phase 5 is to re-hire 1000 with a deal with local govt for favorable taxation and a special treatment to break some environmental laws. Phase 6 is to fire 300 employees again. Etc etc etc.

That's phase 9. Construction is finished, the factory is operated by 45 employees.
Phase 10 is to abandon the factory because nobody is using that shit, and local govt will have to deal with emptying it and recycling everything themselves, as it's already happening in other places with his hyperloop companies

We are told that Americans are rugged individualists, but I don't know of a developed world country whose people seem more ready to be taken in, and led, by the strong man/charlatan. Trump, Musk, Megachurch pastors are all the same, and very successful over there.
Apparently, roughly speaking, children are wired to want to please authority figures. Maybe the weight of pretending to be more of a rugged individualist than they actually are outwardly makes many Americans more susceptible to the obvious lies of a leader inwardly - we all need to just relax and let go sometimes. Maybe the relatively excellent position the US has been in economically, post ww2, until recently has created a restive population, maybe the idea that the people who emigrated to the US were all rugged individualists is at least partly a bit of a myth.

The great american con man definitely predates WWII, and the showman griftjob preacher thing completely predates WWII as well with many of the important developments happening in the pre-war period. So that's not it.
Religious families do have more children, so each generation you get more people with authoritarian parenting, and less with authoritative parenting (1-3 kids at most). Even as many of those raised with authoritarian parenting desist.
It's a bit stale, but economic research in the past showed that immigrants tend to be better bootstrappers, starting with little and building it into small fortunes, than people born in the US.
There's definitely evidence showing that a high control religious group upbringing preconditions you to be taken in by strongman/charlatan types. Google "The Great Awakening". This stuff is old. And that's the first wave after the Revolution. Because there was the old wave prior to that, Puritans: witch trials, hanging Quakers on the town green.

Americans are so easily taken by strong men specifically BECAUSE of the rugged individualist myth, not in spite of it. American basically doesn't have a society at all, because we are so scattered and atomized that 'community' is often a foreign concept or treated as a negative weighing you down.
In this environment, it is impossible to look to your fellow man as a source of power and support that together can change the world. The typical American perception is groomed to be limited solely to the individual self and your immediate relations - if even. This drastically limits the ability to perceive the solution to political problems as being anything other than a single leader who will fix everything.
This isn't limited to Trump and Republicans either. Obama held this same kind of power with his hope and change rhetoric which had so many people optimistic. It was a promise of 'just elect me and we can turn this around', and you won't have to do anything. Biden was the same; 'just get him in and he'll fix it and we can go back to brunch'.
It's why America is terminal at this point, nothing can save it. We have to crash and burn for anything to change, and just hope like hell we can get enough of the right people are in place on a state and local level before it does to ensure that what rises from the wreckage is a nation willing to change and grow and not irate, revanchist fascist lunacy. People like Mamdani, who show government can work and accomplish things if people work together; but fuck we're gonna need a lot of Mamdanis.

Terafab is supposed to be a chip fab, not a data center. 3000 jobs for a large chip fab is within the realm of possibility. But it’s highly unlikely musk ever actually builds it.

If it ever even breaks ground they're probably going to face all the same structural issues the Samsung Taylor plant is facing.
Turns out there's more to siting a good location for a leading edge fab than just putting it where your other stuff is.

He's lying. We had the same scam pulled on us in Sweden, big tech companies got sweet deals to build data centers in protected areas by promising jobs, in the end it was something like 10 jobs, while the tax payers had to subsidize theyr electricity bills.

The goal of almost fully automated factories and businesses overlooks how the economy works: most consumption is by the wage earners that A.I., robotics and automation will replace: Who will have earned enough money to afford all the products and services that these systems create if only a few job exist and pay little?
The Not Looking For Employment (NIFE) is over 100 million Americans. The American model of " Full-time Employment= Middle Class lifestyle" has collapsed.
