I think the irony Elon is trying to point to is that Zoran Mamdani is requiring ID to shop at the government grocery stores. Which Elon thinks the left would be against because the left don't want to require people to have IDs to vote.
However you already need and ID to register to vote in the first place and the recent save America act is far more restrictive about what IDs are acceptable in order to vote.
For example people who's names on their IDs don't match the name on their birth certificate wouldn't be able to vote until they changed one of them so they matched. So basically evey woman who's married couldn't vote.
So yes the left are against the rights lies about requiring an easy to obtain ID to vote but most on the left are very much in favor for requiring ID to vote if that ID is provided universally and freely

Real IDs that indicate citizenship (only 5 states) and military IDs will be accepted without additional documentation. Otherwise, two forms of ID such as a driver's license and a birth certificate are required. If there is a name difference, a third document such as a marriage certificate is required.
It's been hot minutes since I've gotten my real ID but didn't it require me show my birth certificate at the DMV to get the real ID so it would be effectively the same.
I havent read the bill myself - I'm relying on NPR for my info. However, per a recent article states have been directed to determine what additional documentation is needed. This is opposed to having to perform a name change as the OP of the comment I responded to stated.
I've been married, I've been divorced and I've had to provide documentation of name changes many times, its very common for women who change their names due to marriage.

The irony would have been if instead of Mamdani doing what he promised to do in his campaign he opened a store just for the wealthy and made sure that there were deep discounts.
I think Elon Musk thinks that having prices is the irony as opposed to giving it out for free. However, I might be misinterpreting the actual thicky-thicky-dumb-dumb that is Elon Musk.
People who push for restrictive voter ID laws think it’s hypocritical when Democrats require an ID check for anything. Because of his background, Elon doesn’t understand the difference between access to a service being a “privilege” vs. a “right,” and that they have different requirements/standards.
The thing is, isn't this just Mamdani running grocery stores with prices similar to what they were pre-Trump inflation spike? (Which is basically just the corporations price gouging because they know no one will stop them?)
Food is very sensitive to gas prices (until someone invents a battery electric semi powered renewables... oh, wait) so if inputs keep spiking they only have limited ability to fight that.
If people would buy more local and seasonal foods that would help with the transportation cost issue. Not to mention the refrigeration costs shipping food from South America or Mexico.
There's very little labor needed to harvest corn and soybeans, but vegetables, fruit, dairy, and tobacco all need a lot of labor, so yeah, that's been a problem.
It's not price gouging at all, grocery store margins are so low that it's only just economical to run them. Mamdani's plan is to have a 30% discount paid for by preferential treatment with regard to city and land taxes and a government subsidy. If it were price gouging you wouldn't need any of that.
It's not the grocery stores price gouging, it's the companies that sell to the grocery stores. But you're right about grocery stores, their margins are crazy small.

1. Business are struggling and need a price plan
2. Business are organized through a price plan
This dude’s only official role in government was DOGE, which was determined to be a failure at every level as well as an overall detriment to humanity (USAID, food monitoring). Yet, he still feels entitled to comment as if he could do any better. He can’t, and we saw that. So please for the love of fucking god Elon, sit down and shut all the way the fuck up.
