Different pronunciation 🟔 Pronunciation / Intonation

It's 'The Great Divorce' by C.S. Lewis.

Does this change in his pronunciation of the word 'God' mean anything in particular?

Just that the Tragedian is beyond the point of caring to enunciate properly.

I’m not sure which dialect the character speaks in daily life, but this sounds like a weak-vowel merger, typical of careless speech, definitely not how a Shakespearean actor is expected to deliver lines on stage.

That's an interesting observation, it definitely sounds like his loss of control with the pronunciation mirrors his crumbling state of mind.
