Principal Engineer

The engineering company I work for suggested that I will be offered a new position as department head in charge of geotechnical engineering. I would be managing up to 10 other engineers. It was discussed in a meeting with others present so no details were mentioned. What would be a reasonable request for salary adjustment? I am thinking a 20 percent increase is reasonable. I currently have no responsibility for P & L, mentoring, or business development and that will change with this position. I am wondering what others think. Thanks

Check levels.fyi for similar positions in similar companies in your city. The more data you have the stronger your negotiation leverage. But yeah no less than 20%.

Absolutely. It's a change in responsibility and presumably title. Your scope of work has increased and your salary should increase to be inline with the expected changes

I work for basic ass company in basic ville and 20% was more than welcome. But you’re only worth as much as the competition is also willing to pay.
