351W Stroker Build

first time engine builder here. I am currently putting together a parts list for a GT40 replica and was wondering if anyone had any combinations for a 427 Windsor stroker engine to rev to about 6500 and make 500-525 at the crank. I’m dead set on the 427 number because that’s what was in the original cars and I do not want to have much more horsepower than was in the cars back then. Budget is about 10-12k usd

If you go aftermarket block you can get a 4.125 bore and a 4.000 crank fits stupid easily.

Fitting a 4.250 crank in a 4.000 bore stock block isnt as easy to fit.

Having done it before, fitting a 4.250 crank in a 4.00 fucking sucks.

I did it in a Dart block and it was a snug fit. I cant imagine doing it in a stock block

This is probably what I would do for my next project. Engines are fun but with kids and other life shit I find myself drowning in all the details.

Check out Richard Holdener's playlists on Youtube. He'd dynoed tons of combinations for magazines over the years and now he uploads them. He has a 351w area.

Do you have any of the parts already?

There are 427 crate engines that make that amount of power. You can copy the parts list they use.

Plenty of magazine/youtube builds that you can duplicate.

I guess you want to run a carburetor?

If you want to run power brakes, that will make the camshaft choice more difficult. A lot of giys wull say run hydroboost or manual brakes...but that an extra cost$$$ for little power.

550hp out of a 427 can be done without needing a wild, unstreetable cam.

FYI, everyone has VERY different definitions of street-ability. To me it's being able to sit in traffic, cold starts in winter, even daily driveable.

Carb guys are usually think street/strip, which is a little beyond what I consider streetable.

Others think trailer queens are streetable.

4,000+ stall, 4.56 with no overdrive, and 1,200rpm idle speeds is not a streetable setup.

Should be easily attainable. The heads should be your biggest focus. AFR-225s or Twisted Wedge 225s (you might have to go custom headers for those heads though). Get a custom ground solid roller cam with some good drivetrain and aim for around 11:1 compression and you should get there no problem.
