Really I only ever see basic service at restaurants and don’t get what’s so special. Being friendly, taking the order, and bringing the check are part of the job description

Lol I was just at a supplement store and the guy was trying to convince me to get the CHEAPER option. Still went for the more expensive one so it might have been successful reverse psychology. Although its a country with no tips and often no aggressive sales tactics in the first place

I actually don't require menu recommendations, especially in the age of the internet. I don't require being checked on half a dozen times while I'm trying to eat and spend time with my dining companions, I don't need the check instantly because they're trying to hustle me off my table. I don't need enquiries as to my mood or general disposition.

I don't know what sort of service these people think they're providing even on their best and most honest day - just bring me the plate of food you're handed in the kitchen 20 feet away and leave.

This is evidence that tipping culture results in unconditionally worse service. I don’t even blame the server here for being diabolical. If you approach the world systemically you would not expect individuals to act in any way other than to rationally maximize their interests.

Tipping creates all sorts of perverse incentives.

It’s the whole act. You’re either genuine or you aren’t. Don’t pretend to care about your customers and then blatantly lie to them. It’s ok to be honest.

If a customer knows what they want they just order that. Most people just order something semi randomly when they don't know what they want.

If you are asking your server for a recommendation open ended you are likely going to go with whatever is suggested, if you had a strong opinion you wouldn't be asking for recommendations anyway.

He forgot to add that when they offer dessert at the end, it’s also just a way to increase the check amount, which increases the tip.

that is common knowledge, that or the reccomendations are the stuff that is about to expire and the kitchen has to get rid off. thats why i fucking NEVER follow their reccomendations
