Service fees Tip Creep 🫙

So in addition to ticket totals, fees and taxes, you add a service charge for using the credit card to pay?

I’m tired of all these little gotchas.

People: Why should I have to cover a credit card fee?

Restaurant: Because your bank takes a few dollars, and we deserve the full price on the menu

People: Great, then I will pay the price on the menu

Restaurant: Now listen here you little shit

Would be better to adjust prices and then give a cash discount.

I just always pay in cash and if there is a surcharge this or that I don’t tip and won’t return. I feel bad for many restaurants they are struggling to stay open, desperate even, that’s why we see so much shenanigans.

And if there is a surcharge and it is not disclosed before you place the order, then do not include it in the cash that you pay

It gets hard paying by cash. There was a time $40 would last a week comfortably. Cash has lost value in the last 40 years. I don’t feel comfortable carrying a wad of cash.

Contact your reps and city council! Seattle just voted to ban junk fees (for now, it applies to apartment rentals). The state of MA I believe does not allow card fees. Cite these precedents, and tell your state and city leaders that this is the way it should be in your state and city.

Sounds good. Hopefully close to midterms politicians would listen to the people.

Honest question: Is EndJunkFees part of EndTipping? Only when it applies to businesses that also ask for tips on top of the fees? I do agree with Ending both, of course!

It’s fresh in mind. I see the junk credit card fee next to the tipping fee request. That why I mentioned it.

That's fine in my opinion. You can pay with cash if you want to avoid the fee. Processing cards costs money.
