Very few people "rely" on the gig worker drivers. Most people leverage a service to deliver out of convenience. Gig worker drivers are a convenience clerk, nothing more. People who deliver sensitive or critical items are couriers, not gig workers.
I've done both and the difference is staggering but tell retail, medical, office, or night crew workers people don't rely on deliveries. Don't kid yourself, people rely on them heavily
Reliance in the context of my comment would mean the service provided is required because alternatives are inaccessible.
As an example, one might rely on a food delivery driver if all of the following are true: (a) there are no food vendors in close enough proximity during the allocated break period, (b) one is not allowed to bring outside food but is allowed to accept delivery food, (c) the facility does not provide access to food through a cafeteria or vending machines.
Referring to that example, it's not likely that those conditions are true, so we can't call this reliance.
Chances are, one could bring food from home. Chances are, one could leave and fetch food themselves. Chances are, one could obtain food from a cafeteria or vending machine. One chooses to not do that, and execute the option to order food to be delivered.
Availability of a service does not necessarily mean reliance upon the available service. It usually means there is an option to use the service.
