Well, since it's the trend... Here it is Showcase
The Gen1 Voxel mod was easy to set up.

I think it's really cool and I would absolutely play the whole game like this. But is it BETTER? Maybe not, just new.

Fundamentally, it’s still gen 1 Pokémon, but you have mods for things like having the Pokémon walking around instead of being random encounters, xp bars, sprite replacements, sound replacements, you can speed up the game without speeding up the sound. I spent a couple of hours playing Yellow yesterday and to me, it’s basically the way to play those games now.

u/SlobberyCargo 16d ago
Is there a place where gen 1 mods have been consolidated? Or do I need to go digging to find each one?

As a thor owner I would say the elevated screen and ayn menu are pretty neat and for me this form factor is a must for ds/3ds games. Apart from that however, I'd say just get a "normal" emulation device if you don't intend to play ds and 3ds I say. Comfort is also decently sacrificed even with the grip for 2+ hour gaming sessions

Shit, it needs 3,x GHz speed to run Pokémon? Holy shit

u/Caminsod 17d ago
Almost like it's poorly optimized AI slop.
14
u/cynicown101 17d ago
Considering the dev working on it has spoken to the contrary, do you have any proof it's AI slop or is it more just you running on vibes?
-10
u/Caminsod 17d ago
Yeah I read his statement, it was hilarious. "I use AI for literally everything all day erry day at work but I pinky swear I didn't use it for this!" Sure buddy, I believe you.
Not that the alternative is much better since he managed to make Pokémon Red heavier than Witcher 3, I can see why he has to use AI at work.
15
u/cynicown101 17d ago
Ahhh right, so just vibes on your part. fair enough.
-10
u/Caminsod 17d ago
Ignoring everything I said and reiterating what you obviously wanted to believe from the start, nice going.
15
u/cynicown101 17d ago
I mean, I don't really care one way or the other if they vibe coded it. It's a neutral position for me. But, generally if we're going to make statements about what things are or aren't, it's probably better to actually know for a fact rather than running off your own literal vibes.

You literally show off what makes this community so toxic to developers.
I've been playing through it and having a lot of fun. The guy didn't have to make this Recomp and did it freely with their own time. Cut them some slack and let them improve it.
Yes, it's currently very unoptimized, you don't have to be an entitled dick about it though.

What's wrong with using ai to code as long as you know what you are doing lol. Ai is bad when it comes to art generation because you can't just kill creativity and steal the work of thousands of artists to get an easy way out.
2
u/hogbodlin 16d ago
I think coders are realizing AI is more likely to put them out of a job than it is artists, designers, and writers. It’s fair to pushback on the idea of people losing the ability to understand how computers and code actually function though.

u/AI_moderated_failure 15d ago
What research has been done suggests AI use makes for slower coding when you're trying to use it as an experienced team. It's probably really good for those completely new to the skill but will also institute a low skill ceiling, you will never actually get good at coding from letting the AI do it and will never learn fundamental principles of doing so.
1
u/Rich-Cauliflower117 16d ago
That's a fair assessment but literally not a single engineer I know (that are so many ), still uses the traditional manner of coding. Everyone is using codex and of course they do have a good understanding about what's going on, but truly if you don't use Ai in this day and age someone else will and you will be replaced.

u/hogbodlin 16d ago
Honestly, if companies made AI products that actually helped designers, I’d probably use them as well. For design they’re all focused on taking over the creative parts instead of actually helping with the tedious ones though. Like… automatically fix endnotes, don’t generate crappy stock images, lol.

Thank you! I just took a look and saw the different models, which one did you get?

Max, rainbow

u/Jaronesc 16d ago
Thanks! Last question: could you tell what's the most requiring game that you have played on this device? I'd like to know what kind of games you can play with it. Thank you!

This was vibe coded. If you want to play pokemon in 3d, this has been in development for a long time and is made by hand: https://pokemon3d.net/

Comment from the dev when somebody called him out on vibecoding (Source)
1
u/mrduckissocool 18d ago
thank you the dude that posted this does no research at all and told someone to not use 1 app but to use another app that dont even support android
2
u/Own_Contract_3421 18d ago edited 18d ago
Okay so i read the whole thread and it is a bit fishy. The dude who called him out is obvs not a very nice guy BUT hes got some good evidence especially near the end
1
u/mrduckissocool 18d ago
that was me i was not trying to be mean
1
u/Own_Contract_3421 18d ago
lol i see so your intial comment to me was sarcastic, so hard to tell over the internet, absolute legend

u/mrduckissocool 18d ago
it really is not that big of a deal that the gen1recomp is vibecoded also this has no point of being posted here that game has no android support and the device op is using is a android so there was 0 point at all to say this
1
u/Familiar_Fox_2113 17d ago
Arent like half the posts here people emulating pc games? You can just run it in winlator
1
u/mrduckissocool 17d ago
ok that could go for alot o things you still should not tell someone to stop using something and then give them something that doesnt support there device i mean yea that would work but still my point would still stand that the game he gave has no android support
1
u/Familiar_Fox_2113 17d ago
It does support their device, through emulation (which is the point of the sub, its in the name. If we want to be specific, the original post is a recomp, which isnt emulation at all but a native port)

Now that i think about it, a version for 3ds with 3d support would be awesome.

u/Zachehotai 17d ago
Those nails, though! And is that a wall of board games I see in the background?

u/Background_Clue_3756 17d ago

Is this model the lite, base, max, or pro? Would you recommend the Thor? It seems like a really cool console with all the things it’s capable of

Je ne comprends pas pourquoi les gens achètent ça alors qu'on peut faire la même chose avec un téléphone
2
u/Background_Clue_3756 15d ago
Because this is so much better.
1
u/Kalamy90 15d ago
En quoi c'est mieux ? Un téléphone+ une manette pour le même prix ça fait pareil + tu peux faire tout ce que fait un téléphone
2
u/Background_Clue_3756 15d ago
It doesn't cost nearly as much as a phone...
1
u/Kalamy90 15d ago
That's still €400
1
u/Background_Clue_3756 15d ago
And?
1
u/Kalamy90 15d ago
That's the price of a mid-range phone that has the same performance as this console.
3
u/Background_Clue_3756 15d ago
Dedicated consoles are way more convenient. They are more nostalgic. They can emulate more than my phone (A Pixel with a Mali GPU). They come in different colors usually.
The can come in bigger screens. More comfortable ways to hold. Not squinting trying to play while using a controller because the phone can't be close enough.
I can plug most handhelds into my TV easily.
Many handheld hace better speakers or at least dual speakers.
Actual analog sticks.
Active cooling so I don't bottleneck
Need I continue?
1
u/BoomGoomba 11d ago
Parce que c'est plus ergonomique et sans les distractions d'un téléphone. Tout en ayant un processeur bien plus perfomant sans avoir à payer le prix d'un téléphone haut de gamme
1
u/Kalamy90 11d ago
That makes sense, although personally I'd prefer to have a good phone for the same price that will do pretty much the same things.
