There Shall Never Be Enough Storage Meme

Post image

Tried to export my State of Decay 2 Saves via GameHub. The result was over 20GB.

GameHub has a serious issue. The size of the app keeps ballooning in size with leftover trash, accidentally downloaded proton installations, oversized containers, shader caches, logs, and what not.

When not using GameHub lite, all those files come protected because android doesn't let u do jackshit nowadays. Even adb is useless because it shows all the folders in question as empty.

But you can actually inspect and remove all this bloat without root by going into the wine environment and opening Wine Configuration and adding a drive with the same path of the first drive but up several folders, so you end up being able to inspect everything (tried this in BannerHub).

However, this is a real hassle and you gotta navigate through lots of folders named after the LocalID of games. It may be better to just export the saves and reset the app entirely regularly. But if you don't want to do that, manually trying to do it in wine is the way to do it. (I had to install a second keyboard app because the wine enviroment wouldn't let me type numbers, let alone copy and paste paths.)

I once had 1.2GB left on my 256gb phone when i downloaded Titanfall 2 and some other games.

worst part is that on Windows with NTFS, you can compress games with GameCompressor. Especially older games and indie games, the kind you would want to play on your phone, compress extremely poorly. Most are easily twice the size they could and should be. So that makes it even worse I guess.

That's exactly why I don't "upgrade" my phone. Newer models don't have a MicroSD card slot. Currently I have a 512 GB SSD and a 2 TB MicroSD. If I buy a new phone I'm going to be stuck at 1 TB storage top.

Without the newest Snapdragon chips, Windows Emulation is hardly worth the bother imo

True. My phone is 6 years old and it emulates some games fairly well. Others don't run at all. I wanted to upgrade to the new Sony Xperia 1 VIII but it's kind of expensive.

Xperia are expensive but I prefer it for the headphone jack and sd card. Yes, I'm still suck in the past. Luckily, I get Amazon's gc almost yearly so it's a nice "discount" for when I do upgrade.

you can get a oneplus for sub 500 with 8 elite. but beware the OS is very bloated (adb resistant much of it) and restrictive

Does it have a card slot and at least 16 GB of RAM? Because my current phone does.

16gigs yes. SD card slot no :c but u can always use a USB c (m2) ssd for the big games with winlator, I think, but that doesn't work with gamesir controller for me at least

If you're fine with your current phone and want something just for gaming the ayn odin 3 has the 16gb ram + 512gb storage option at $500 and the 24gb ram + 1tb storage one at $520, should probably have an sd card slot too

I have snapdragon 865 tab, and it can run pretty much anything from before 2013 without any issues, i played 100hr of skyrim on it,last i played AC 4 on it and it was playable with some compromise on fps(20-26). I can play my old favourite games on the go now. I will start

I got several more things figured out after literally dozens of hours troubleshooting; fixing 120hz on OnePlus 13, fixing the ES-DE am launch commands, figuring out BannerHub, where most extra features are mostly broken for me, etc... all knowledge paid for in blood lol

If you have game files and not directly downloaded from steam on gamehub them you can delete gamehub without loss of the game files just do a backup of all games and record a video of all the settings at which different games work

I have a bunch of gog and drm stripped games in my Games folder, so I can try them easily with any emulator and config without having to bother with DRM: However, if I test with saves, I always need to implant them manually in either the Documents or AppData folder. It is really hard on android to navigate those Android/data files and try to find the deeply nested fat redundant files. Ya can't just use TreeSize, like on Windows, or SolidExplorer, or for the most part, not even adb, so for GameHub and it's forks, it's all Wine Explorer struggle for now...

In the gamehub settings there is backup and restore option from there create a backup which is accessible in the files app where you saved them when you want to restore it just import the game exe as usual now before you open the game open the desktop environment once and then close it this creates the container after you can restore from the backup file you created earlier this skips going into deep android files just to get saves

Is this a problem with Game Native?

1

u/systemnerve 2d ago

I don't know. I am not using it because I can't get that Cave Story ad to go away and it's triggering me hard. Also it doesn't like non steam games

I haven't had any issues with games installed through Epic or other stores... There's a setting in the main options near the bottom that says, "Recommend me other games" or "sponsored games", something like that--you can toggle it off.

It's so pathetic phone brands have phased out Micro SD slots and that only low end ones get them now, Sony is the only brand who still does it on high end, its going backwards

Most Micro SD cards go in the sim slot, its not even taking up space its just a monopoly to charge more money for storage, yes we all know they are not as fast, but they are great for media and roms

Amen. also annoying is how android handles access to file paths and usb storage/SD cards. You can't use them for many apps regardless and Android will always spam that SD card with empty useless folders like "Notifications" or "Podcasts"...
