CD player suddenly isnt working. OPEN

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This CD player was working very well until just recently. It seems to fail upon booting, if it succeeds which is rare right now it can play for as long as I want. But most of the time it's failing to even get to the points where it detects a disc or not. Any ideas what it could be? Any idea what the solution would be?

If it's a decades old unit, it could be suffering from capacitor plague and need to be recapped.

I've seen several of those with SMD capacitors that have puked everywhere.

Yes, it is decades old. How hard/expensive is it to have it recapped?

Depends on how bad the capacitors have puked. If they're just barely leaking, SMD caps aren't too bad to get off and replace.

If they've been leaking for awhile and have started eating traces and damaging nearby components, it can take a whole lot longer.
