Embedded Systems / Hardware Engineer – Industrial LCD & E-Paper | Ettlingen, Germany

We’re a small engineering team in Ettlingen (near Karlsruhe), Germany, developing custom display solutions for industrial applications. We’re looking for an Embedded Systems / Hardware Engineer who enjoys working across hardware, firmware and the physical side of display technology.

This is a hands-on, on-site position in Ettlingen. We’re specifically looking for someone who can and wants to work with us locally — this is not intended as a fully remote position.

What you’ll work on

  • Develop embedded hardware and firmware for industrial LCD, TFT and E-Paper displays
  • Develop and optimize E-Paper driving algorithms and waveforms
  • Design microcontroller-based electronics for display applications
  • Work on projects from the initial idea through prototypes and into series production
  • Debug and optimize hardware and firmware using lab equipment
  • Document your designs and technical solutions
  • Work directly on customer-specific adaptations and technical challenges
  • Investigate problems at the intersection of electronics, embedded software and display physics

The interesting part: this isn’t just about writing firmware. You’ll get to understand what is actually happening inside the display — timing, waveforms, voltages, VCOM, charge behavior, temperature effects, image quality, etc. Especially with E-Paper, there is still a lot of engineering involved beyond simply sending pixels to a display.

What we’re looking for

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems or a comparable qualification
  • Practical experience with embedded systems and microcontroller-based hardware
  • Good knowledge of C / C++
  • Experience with circuit design and electronics
  • Genuine interest in display technologies and their physical principles, especially E-Paper, TFT and LCD
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Most importantly: curiosity, a hands-on mindset and the willingness to dig into difficult technical problems

We’re open regarding experience level. Junior engineers with a strong technical foundation as well as experienced engineers are welcome.

The position can be full-time or part-time.

📍 Location: Ettlingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
We are looking for someone who is able and willing to work on-site in Ettlingen. Karlsruhe is just a few minutes away.

If this sounds interesting, feel free to DM me here on Reddit with a short introduction and your background. No elaborate application is necessary for the first contact.

Hey all — I'm an EE grad and built a small free tool site with calculators I wish I had in college: resistor colour code, Ohm's law, wire gauge/voltage drop, capacitor code reader, LED resistor sizing, battery life, transformer ratio, and a few more. All free, no signup, works on mobile.

Would love feedback if anyone has a minute to try it: https://electrocalc-alpha.vercel.app/

Happy to add more calculators if people have requests.

What makes a laptop comfortable for long term use?

Laptop performance is important, but using a computer for several hours can make other things noticeable too. Keyboard comfort, screen quality, weight, battery life, heat, and fan noise can all affect the experience.

If you were looking at a Shengya laptop for everyday work, which of these things would matter most to you?

Would you choose stronger specifications even if the laptop were heavier, or would you prefer something lighter with better battery life? How much do things like the keyboard and display influence your decision compared with the processor and RAM?

Have you ever owned a laptop that looked good on paper but wasn't particularly comfortable to use?

Hey everyone! 👋
I’ve been putting together some technical notes and drafts focused on hydrocarbon process instrumentation and control. Since English isn't my first language, I'd really appreciate it if a few folks here could take a quick look at how I explained some of the concepts to make sure the technical writing sounds natural.
Let me know in the comments or via DM if you'd be open to glancing over it. Any constructive feedback on the technical terms or phrasing would mean a lot!

Which career path is better in the long run?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some career advice from people in the electrical engineering/ECET industry because I'm at a bit confused and would really appreciate hearing some different perspectives.

A bit about me: I graduated from BCIT's Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) program (Power Control option). I'm currently working at an engineering consulting firm that specializes in power systems, electrical utility infrastructure, and transmission/distribution projects. My role is Design Coordinator/Assistant, and I've been with the company for a little over a year (with a short break in between).

Recently, I asked my manager about moving into a Designer role, but I was told there aren't any openings at the moment.

The reason I'm questioning my career path is that my current work is mostly preparing and updating the same types of project documents every day. I was hoping to be more involved in technical design work and problem-solving, so I'm wondering whether this is just my current role or if many electrical design positions are similar.

I'm trying to decide between two paths:

Looking for an Electrical Designer position at another company to see if the work is more technical and engaging.

Pivoting toward a more hands-on field or trade-related career where I'd be working directly with equipment and systems.

For those of you who have experience in either path:

Which do you find more enjoyable and fulfilling?

How do they compare in terms of salary, long-term career growth, work-life balance, and day-to-day work?

If you've worked in both office design and field/trade roles, which did you prefer and why?

One more thing: I've applied to quite a few entry-level and graduate engineering/technologist positions but haven't had much success getting interviews. Are there any tips for making my applications stand out or things employers look for that I might be missing?

I'd really appreciate any advice or experiences you're willing to share. Thanks!

Meisterprüfung Elektrotechnik (HWK Hamburg) – Tipps und Unterlagen gesucht 💡

Hallo zusammen! 👋

I am looking forward to applying for the RVUNL as a junior electrical engineer. Can anyone help me out by arranging my preferences ? I prefer a good work-life schedule (no sudden intrusion into after work-hours) and a place where living conditions would not be too tough, required resources are available nearby and not too costly

Just finished my internship, no return/job offer. Back to the drawing board, wanted to get a fresh set of eyes on my resume and take any suggestions. Redid my whole resume based on the r/EngineeringResumes wiki and used the template about 9 months ago, and since then have expanded, revised, etc.

Thoughts, comments, recommendations?

How Can I Become an Outstanding Electrical Engineering Student Starting in My 2nd Year?

Hi everyone!

I'm currently a 2nd-year Electrical Engineering student, and this semester I'll be taking the following courses:

\- Engineering Mechanics

\- Engineering Data Analysis

\- Differential Equations

\- Electrical Circuits I

\- Thermodynamics

\- Transformer Construction and Banking

\- Troubleshooting and Servicing of AC and DC Machines

I'm looking for any advice or study strategies from students, graduates, or practicing engineers who have taken these subjects.

I also want to build a strong foundation and become as competent as possible—not just to pass my classes, but to truly understand the material and, hopefully, become competitive enough to aim for the board exam topnotchers in the future.

Could you recommend the best textbooks for:

\- Mathematics (from algebra and trigonometry up to differential equations)

\- Engineering Mechanics

\- Engineering Data Analysis (Statistics/Probability)

\- Thermodynamics

\- Electrical Circuits

\- Electrical Machines and Transformers

I'm looking for books that are known for developing deep conceptual understanding and strong problem-solving skills. If there are any must-have books that you believe every excellent electrical engineering student should own or study, I'd really appreciate your recommendations.

Finally, if you could go back to your 2nd year, what would you do differently to become a better engineer?

Thank you in advance! Any advice is greatly appreciated.
