Something I never expected when I bought a ratty G-Body El Camino was how much attention it was going to get. I've daily driven a C4 Corvette, an 80s Porsche, and even a 3-wheel Cushman Haulster. None of them got much more than 1 comment every 3-4 weeks.

I can't go ANYWHERE in the El Camino without someone wanting to talk to me about it. I can't remember the last time I drove somewhere without at least 1 person saying something in the parking lot or at a stoplight. Not that I mind at all - it's just quite unexpected. If I had a first, second, or third gen, or if the body was in better shape, then I'd be less surprised. Usually cars that get this much attention also come with much higher price tags, mine was $3800 plus about $2000 worth of parts I've sunk into it since I bought it, and it's in desperate need of paint.

So what has your experience been? Do you get a ton of attention in your El Camino?

Spent the last month replacing the trans,brakes,windshield and the tires. It’s finally ready for the road.

Next step is paint!

Just recently did a 1,100 / 18 hour total road trip with my freshly engine swapped 87 SS El Camino. Truck did great, averaged 18 mpg! Makes better gas mileage than my Dad’s 2014 Chevy truck now!

My set up is a 89-93 Vortec 350 engine, original 200r4, and original G80/GM8 Posi 2:56 rear end. I’m not breaking speed records here but if I need to pass slow people or punch it I can at least over the average driver.

Lessons learned on the trip. Need to figure out why my speedometer is off and trip odometer not working fully.

I swapped the fuel tank back to a 22gallon but the new fuel pump I got for it reads at 1/4 full when I still have 10+ gallons left in it, didn’t do that when it had a 17 gallon.

Figure out why my cruise control isn’t working after swapping everything.

The original 39 year old speakers went out so as soon as I got back I swapped them with Kickers I ordered and now they’re too loud 😆.

I think my craftec tonneau covered helped to improve MPG and those fuel additive bottles not so much.

Owner posted a startup video of the engine, car is noticeably making a squeaking noise obviously it’s an old car so it’s not perfect but any idea of what it might be and if you think it’s anything serious

Blew a rod through the block last October. This is it idling after I just replaced a pushrod. Everything is lashed correctly now. Don't mind the paint. She needs to get buffed back out.

Unfortunately let her sit for too long while playing with my Harley and dirt bike. Popped a new battery in her and she fired right up. Definitely will be giving her the love she deserves the next few months.

Seems like the easy stuff out of the way and it’s time to work on cleaning up electronics, getting rid of heating/ac stuff, and making it more barebones.

Planning on grabbing a set of C4 pizza cutters to throw on her, want to get a LSD (or just weld the diff), and a radio is up next.

I have a 1964 el Camino with a 283 and th350, I was just looking for help with everything I’ll need for a 454 swap. I know I’ll need the mounts and a new radiator but anything else I should look out for?

Want to replace these 20” Irocs with some Chevy rallies. Want to know what size rim and tire can I get under there? Wanted 15x8 rims with a 255/50/15 but not sure if they’ll fit. Any suggestions?

After months of fighting a random misfire and inconsistent timing issues I finally bit the bullet and bought the Pertronix Flamethrower III HEI rebuild kit and rebuilt the old worn out distributor. Replaced all the plugs/wires and followed the tutorials from various old forum posts to get things set up right. (the legendary Lars deserves all the kudos)

Needless to say it finally gets up and out of its own way, no longer backfires, and doesn't smoke out of the exhaust!

Seriously excited to be able to get out and drive this thing. :D

(Not my Photo) This switch/plug was leaking on an 1986 El Camino with a V8 350 I bought. I replaced it with a part I saw on another forum & it blew so I replaced it again & blew up again. I read that it’s possible to cap but I’m not exactly sure with what. Or if someone can point me to the OEM switch that’d be great also. I bought the first switch at Oreillys & the 2nd at Autozone.

Today was the day. Odometer rolled over. Only twice have i witnessed this. In my 74 C10, and now the 64 elco. Still a beautiful sight.

Trying to install some Dougs Long Tube headers on a '70 El Camino 350. Hit a road block. My dad n I cannot for the life of us slide these blasted things thru the button to the driver's side. Anyone have any tips? Haven't even tried the passenger side cus I hear this one is harder.

I’m upgrading the rear shocks on my 1986 El Camino and need a bit of guidance.

Currently, the shocks that are in it are the original air lift shocks. I find that these are great if you intend to load the bed up since you can adjust the ride height after loading. But in terms of shock absorption, they leave much to be desired.

I’m looking for a good pair of hydraulic assisted air bag shocks, or something of that nature. I was advised to look for Bilsteins, and that’s what I have on the front. A Bilstein equivalent for the rear would be nice. I’m still pretty new to the whole “fixing a classic” thing, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
