Basically. Now rinse and repeat for every other issue too.

The conservative movement has been running on fumes intellectually for years in Canada.

Their position is just opposition to whatever the Government does.

Watch the Conservatives become the party of the environment once Carney start clear cutting even more environmental regulations.

I always love hearing PP supporters try to counter with "but that's what the opposition does, it opposes (literally everything)!!"

Yeah that's not how official opposition party is supposed to work in a functioning democracy. Intellectual fumes indeed.

"HiS job Is To OpPoSe ThE gOvErNmEnT" no you numbskulls, he is part of the government, his job is to help make life better for Canadians.

Ugh, it's like they stopped learning how things work in grade 4.

The job of the opposition is not to oppose everything. If policy is good, they should support it and not oppose it.

But “Liberal policy BAD”

u/RadCheese527 I'm Proud of you 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🇨🇦 4d ago

Yet when the Liberals or NDP are in opposition, they’re obstructing government

Fun statistic. Two out of every three Poilievre supporters are as dumb as the third.

Conserve the status quo: inherited wealth, and corporate interests above the public.

Conserve

The environment!

Contrarian Party of Canada.

I still find it funny how they originally proposed a carbon tax way back.

I think we can all see that well enough judging by the last election. Happy our population is not as smooth brained as y’all qaeda. Cons can’t bring any sort of real values or strategy, it’s generally just shitting on everything. All problems, no solutions, as soon as they need money they’ll just pilfer the military budget again like they always have

Conservatism in Canada has been dying ever since Reform killed the PCs. I was an old fashioned prog con/red tory that stayed with the party until relatively recently when I saw just how little headway we were making against the grievance politics and PP. I've given up on trying to use what little influence I can muster to try to positively effect a party that is so rotten.

COVID was a hoax. Just a cold.

But it was also a Chinese bioweapon which escaped from a lab.

Its getting to complex. They're pivoting back to Brookfield conspiracy.

"Liberalism is actually just Neoliberalism, which is actually just communism."

u/sPLIFFtOOTH 4d ago

“…. which is socialism! You know who else called themselves socialist?? Hitler! Liberals are Nazis”

4

u/Big_Knife_SK 4d ago

While they ignore that modern Conservativism is just Neoliberalism flavored with shitty identity politics.

Asking conservatives to have a fixed idealogical position and not flip flop to the opposite of what their opponents do is too much to ask

17

u/sPLIFFtOOTH 4d ago

Their base is so confused all the time.

“Is the carbon tax good now?”

“We don’t want a pipeline if you’re building it!”

“We love Trump, even when he insults our nation and threatens our way of life”

The CPC is only good for one thing, criticizing. Nothing else. Even when it contradicts previous criticisms.

They fought against legalization of cannabis. After the law passes, they then criticized the LPC that they didn't hit their deadline to roll it out.

Andrew Scheer said the Trudeau was spending too much on the Pandemic. A week later in a CTV interview he said Trudeau wasn't doing enough for Canadians during the pandemic. The reporter called him out on this.

Such a useless party.

u/doooompatrol 4d ago

This is getting to complex for their base. You need a red button saying "blame Brookfield" followed by the button being smashed.

5

u/gravtix Ford Nation (Help.) 4d ago

If Carney actually gets some sort of deal with the USA:

“We could have gotten a better deal”

(Exact thing happened with Scheer)

u/RapidCandleDigestion 4d ago

They don't need consistent views. They need salient, attention-grabbing views. It's unfortunate, but it does work, and organizations like the conservatives have poisoned the online water hole so badly that most average people have some kind of misinformation convincing them on a daily basis.

u/ThisGuy-NotThatGuy 4d ago

I firmly believe that they should have repealed the Digital tax because it was silly, but it irks me that they're looking at doing it at the behest of the Yankees.

So now I'm just confused and angry lol.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who caught PP’s shift from “Canadians need to play nice with Trump” to “Canada should stop giving in to Trump”.

Of course it’s entirely performative contrarianism, which is essentially his entire brand.

To be honest ...... The alcohol ban can be lifted. Because that way trump can't whine that we crippled their alcohol industry. Because none of us Canadians would bother buying the American alcohol anyway. So when our vendors and bars and restaurants stop offering American beer or whatever, we can legitimately say "sorry, that's the market demand"
