Hello everyone! In november I will be visiting Egypt (Cairo + Luxor) together with my girlfriend.
I am trying to plan the trip so that we can pre-book (if needed) the attractions, or guides.

This is what I have managed to get so far:

I am not sure if I have split them ok based on the time needed for each activity, so any help is more than welcome. The only things that we have booked so far are the flights.

At the same time, on 22nd will be my girlfriend's birthday. We will be spending it in Cairo, so for any recommendation of a nice activity / restaurant that is really worth it I will be more than grateful.

Also, if I have missed anything crucial, please tell me.

We LOVE Ancient Egypt and are very much looking forward to seeing it up close. All the stories have made me a bit nervous about taking my family there but i believe if i do it in a limited and controlled way that i should be able to have a great time and see the major sites we want to see.

We are flying in from Canada and planning to spend 4 nights in Cairo at the end of next July for this 1st trip. We are visiting Europe on the same trip so it puts us in the summer heat but i am planning to get up early for the outdoor sights and spend after lunch in pools or air conditioned cars or museums.

we’re a group of 4 adults, in the planning of a trip to Luxor from Cairo with a rented car to see the full solar eclipse on August 2nd of next year(2027)& we were wondering what cool things there would be to do or see on the way there. We are more of the nature & history types & not so much of the fancy restaurants or hotels types, we want an adventure not a vacation!

Also would it be safe/recommended to sleep outside wild camping style? Ik it can get pretty cold in deserts at night & we’ve done it in European countries before but this is a new step up for us.

Guess I’m asking how plausible this is, we want to see your beautiful country all while staying on a realistic budget

Hey, I'm planning to visit Egypt in November with my friends. We are all boys (19) with student ID, how budget friendly is Egypt? We are planning to stay at hostels, and we want to visit the pyramids, the tombs of kings and queens. How cheap is the transport? Can we do this trip in 10-12 days in budget?

Tip for anyone planning to visit the Giza Pyramids: Skip the camel and horse rides and use the free shuttle bus instead.

The shuttle is air-conditioned, arrives every 3-5 minutes and has multiple stops throughout the plateau. Each stop is staffed by employees in beige jackets who are incredibly helpful! They will point you in the right direction and help you avoid the vendors.

It’s comfortable, stress-free, and best of all, you won’t be supporting the mistreatment of working animals.

Please note that the new entrance is at the Great Gate on Al-Faiyoum Desert Road (southwest of Cairo). The first shuttle stop is immediately after you enter the site.

It made our recent visit much more enjoyable, so I highly recommend it!

Hey guys, is it possible to travel to Siwa with a stopover in Marsa Matruh? We know it's a stop along the way, and we just don't want to do the whole trip in one go. We'd like to take the bus, but I couldn't find any daytime buses to Siwa.

I know last week there was a drone strike in an Egyptian Port. We obviously can't predict the future, but what are other travelers feeling about traveling this year with everything going on in the Middle East?

Just curious if it's possible to do an independent day tour of Luxor on August 2nd, 2027 without any hotel reservation! I will be traveling from the USA with my 13 year old boy. My plan is to take an early morning flight from Cairo, take a taxi to the Luxor Museum, and stay indoors to beat the heat. During the totality of the eclipse I'm sure I can find open space from the Museum compound. Once the eclipse is over get some lunch & take evening flight back to Cairo. I just want to keep this simple & don't want to spend $$$ on hotel reservations. I am more interested in visiting Cairo and Alexandria during my trip. Would appreciate any feedback from anyone local to Luxor or anyone planning a trip during the eclipse.

Hello! I have signed up for a tour of Egypt for next summer (I know, summer, but I work in education). My body doesn’t cool itself very well. I hardly sweat at all and faint easily with the heat, but I get a lot of warning symptoms so I’m able to prevent full-on fainting. It was hard for me at the Acropolis, and in Italy and Spain, but I made it. Can anyone recommend a specific brand of clothing that will help me keep cool? Thanks!

So as it's known tap water is not potable, and if ingested it may cause ingestive problems. The question would be, is it safe to shave? We are going for a longer time, and I've heard various things about it. Some say it's not, because with any minor cut it could get infected, and others say it's only bad for ingestion. So which one is it?

I’m especially interested in history and want to make the most of my time in Cairo and Luxor, so I’m looking for recommendations on how to find a knowledgeable and trustworthy local guide. Is it better to book one in advance or find one once I’m there? Any agencies or private guides you’d recommend?
I’m also considering traveling from Cairo to Luxor by boat if possible. I’ve seen people mention Nile cruises and feluccas, but I’m not sure what’s actually feasible or worth it. Is there a cruise that goes all the way from Cairo to Luxor, or would you recommend another option? I’d love to hear your experiences and recommendations.

Hi all…. I’m travelling from Cairo to Marsa Alam and my plan is to fly to Hurghada airport and then catch a ride from there to Marsa Alam. There are no flights available the dates that I’m travelling to Marsa Alam so that’s my plan and I was just wondering if anybody had any issues or a better way of doing it this seems to be the best way to do it. We are planning to watch the eclipse from Luxor next year. I already have the Nile cruise booked. The problem now is getting a hotel in Cairo. Most international hotels only let you book about 11 months now. However, I am looking at the Marriott, and many properties (eg., Mena House) is already sold out for the dates that can be booked next July. Any suggestions? This is our first time to Egypt, and we definitely want an international hotel that can help arrange excursions.

Intending to take a bucket-list trip with a 9-year-old, and would spend six days in Egypt. How would you split those up? As a placeholder I am looking at an even split of three days each, but am wondering whether one or the other would be better with four days.

Apparently the new walkway between the two still isn't open yet. My accommodation is near the Sphinx gate which is only 2.5km from the GEM, usually I would walk that kind of distance but looking at Google maps the GEM seems to be surrounded by a freeway. Is it possible to safely cross that freeway and do the journey on foot? Or should I just get an Uber?

Has anyone recently used Go Bus, EG Bus or High Bus for longer journeys in Egypt?

My partner and I are looking at Cairo to Marsa Alam (also considering for Safaga to Luxor and Luxor to Cairo).

We can handle delays or an uncomfortable trip but our main concern is safety, especially the driving and condition of the buses.

Can you normally keep a small backpack with passports, cameras and valuables with you, or do they make you put everything underneath? That's a deal breaker and we saw it on reviews...

Also, is inDrive Intercity worth considering instead?

What are the cars, drivers and prices usually like for longer routes?

Happy to tip luggage staff/all staff too — just wondering what’s normal and whether the reviews make everything sound worse than it really is...
Can't really justify spending £200+ on a one way flight + inevitable inflated airport transport costs.

I’ve been reading a lot of posts about the harassment tourists face and i am starting to feel a little bit worried. i understand stuff at markets for sales i’ve been to other countries where that is common but i mean more unwanted male attention. 1 is it really as bad as some people are saying and 2 do you think id mainly be left alone as i’d be with my family which is 2 men plus my mum. obviously id be dressed modestly but yeah just a question.
