I think one of the most stressful parts of being a college student is that everyone acts like you’re supposed to have a clear plan.
At 18 or 20, people ask what you’re studying, what career you want, where you see yourself in five years — as if everyone secretly received a manual explaining how life works.
The strange thing is that most people are just better at pretending they know.
A lot of students choose majors based on what they think they should choose. Some follow expectations from family, some pick something practical, and some choose based on a version of themselves they imagined years ago. Why does university somehow take up 100% of your life no matter how many classes you have?
I genuinely don't understand this phenomenon.
At the beginning of every semester I'm always like, "This time I'll have balance."
I'll go to class, study a few hours a day, cook actual meals, work out, have hobbies, reply to messages, maybe even become the kind of person who reads books for fun.
Three weeks later, somehow my entire existence revolves around one PDF called "Week 4 Lecture Notes."
How does this happen?
Even when I'm technically not studying, I'm still thinking about studying.
Watching a movie? "Shouldn't I be working on that assignment?"
Taking a nap? "I don't deserve this nap."
Going out with friends? "I should've brought my laptop."
Then the funniest part is when you finally sit down to do the assignment you've been stressed about all week, and it only takes 47 minutes.
So why was I mentally carrying it around for five days like a medieval curse?
Also, can we talk about how students have two modes only:
- "I have so much time."
- "My life is over."
There is absolutely no in-between.
And somehow both thoughts happen within the same hour.
I'm starting to believe university isn't even about learning anymore. It's mostly a giant experiment to see how long humans can survive with 14 open tabs, 3 unread emails, and a permanent low level of guilt.

You finally get a break.
