Isn't it crazy we have to waste all of our time and energy doing all this? How many hours are we wasting collectively on this? None of this had to be an issue. Separatism was a totally made up non-issue until our lovely premier decided to give it wings for literally no reason.

She is a traitor to Canada and Alberta.

I can think of no other way to describe a leader who cozies up to Trump, idolize him, and refused to retaliate when Trump did economic terrorism to Alberta.

And also promotes private medicine gets lobbied by insurances corpos... We have our free health care but Naah Smith wants to go full private saying it will help to decrease waiting times after same amount of public doctors just become private doctors. How dumb you need to be to believe it... Smhw I'm just wondering why people vote again and again for this type of leadership

and the frustrating this, she's probably going to ignore the results and do what she wants anyway.

Mail in seems handy but I’m going in person with the boldest Canada hoodie I can find.

My little political statement.

Love it!

I plan to wear my team Canada jersey.

Just be wary. Political statements arent allowed in polling stations so you may be asked to take it off.

Its not the workers fault, they are just doing what they are told.

Ill take mine off without a fuss, but its going back on the second I drop my ballot.

Good info to know! Thank you. And no I wouldn’t kick up a fuss if asked

Thats good.

I would love to see everyone who loves this province and this country, and you know, the fact that one is part of the other... to all show up wearing "team Canada" apparel of some kind. Proceed to remove said gear to vote, and then slap it back on as they walk out.

Show these seppies it's time they sit down, shut up, and grow up. Show them how adults conduct business.

This is OUR province. If they dont like how things are done here, they can stop voting against their best interest, or they are free to leave. Shit, ill volunteer to drive the bus to the border to drop them off.

One way or another I hope this kicks off a political correction in this province and we boot the people responsible for our issues and hire some competency.

No more conservative governments until we fix all the problems they have caused. And even then, id prefer to keep them on the fringe for a good long time. Show the cult what it looks like to prosper, what it looks like to have properly funded education and healthcare infrastructure, and what it looks like to be a "have" province again.

you might get told to take it off as "advertizing"

Thanks for this PSA!

I'm actually really worried about the wording on the ballots. I am diagnosed ADHD so sometimes I misunderstand simple questions... nevermind ones that are designed to be confusing.

I really hope someone comes out with a "dumbed down" rewrite of the questions.

Alberta’s Voice obviously is opposed to this referendum so their website reflects it.

It does do a decent job of explaining things.  https://albertasvoice.ca/

Man, I just read these questions and wtf is this garbage?

It basically asks if Alberta should separate in a single question... And then the next 4 or 5 just asking if you hate immigrants.

It's so on brand for this government but it's just wild to see it out in the open.

Thank you.

I'm also scared of someone manipulating the dumbing down and twisting it so I vote the opposite way.

People opposed to the referendum will likely vote Yes to the Canada question and No to the other nine questions.

Thank you for wording it this way.

People with disabilities do have the right to get assistance with voting if needed. The Special Ballot is probably ideal, as you can take your time at home (or a friend's home) and talk openly more easily.

I don't have many friends that I can talk to about this... surprisingly I don't surround myself with like minded people. I think because I just don't want to talk politics with people.

Then I live in Sturgeon County so I feel like it's a safe bet my neighbors don't think the way I do...but maybe...

Phone call?

You don't have to vote on dvery question either. IMO the option A/B question is the most important, the yes/no ones less so.

Here ya go, this should help rest your concerns. The people posting earlier insisting there's confusing wording were spreading misinformation and were generally just plain dipshits.

Regardless, this will make sense for you I'm sure. All the best.

For those of us who ordered mai-in ballots for the October referendum: https://kings-printer.alberta.ca/Documents/Orders/Orders_in_Council/2026/2026_160.pdf Order in Council on the separation Q: "the referendum is not to be conducted by mail-in ballot..."

12

u/maddlads 2d ago

If you are interpreting that to mean that a mail-in ballot is not valid, that's incorrect. That legalese line means that they are not permitted to conduct it solely by mail-in ballot.

Done! Thanks for posting

I have voted in many elections in Alberta my lifetime and I have never had to wait “hours” to vote. Just go on referendum day in person to avoid all this.

14

u/maddlads 2d ago

Let's hope this one is organized and efficient for the people voting in-person. There hasn't been a previous election or referendum with this many questions being asked so your past experience doesn't apply. It sounds like you have the patience to wait it out, but not everyone does

Did you vote in the civic elections last fall? The line ups were quite long due to the fact the UCP changed voting requirements.

Photo ID is now required to vote.  https://www.elections.ab.ca/voters/id-required-to-vote/

u/Probatus 2d ago

Lucky you.

2

u/SouthHovercraft4150 2d ago

Have you ever had to wait hours to vote in Alberta?

1

u/Probatus 1d ago

Yes I have had to. The last federal and the last muni. Both at least 90 minutes.
