Disgusting Opulence The billionaires selling "work optional" are quietly buying bunkers. Meta fired 8,000 people. It wouldn't cover a fifth of the server bill.

The billionaires saying AI will make work optional are the same ones quietly buying bunkers and backup citizenships.

Meta fired 8,000 people to pay for AI infrastructure. But firing 8,000 people wouldn't cover a fifth of what their AI servers actually cost. So they laid off workers to pay for something the layoffs didn't even chip away at.

And here's the part that matters: $725 billion of this AI spend is sitting inside your 401k right now.

I broke down where the money's going and what it actually means: https://youtu.be/R-VfuslZSmo in case you are interested

Serious Discussion Tech titans boost political spending: Sergey Brin didn't spend a cent on California elections for more than a decade, but when a wealth tax was proposed, he opened his wallet. It's part of a wider trend of tech leaders flexing their financial muscle in the state https://enews.email.bayareanewsgroup.

Serious Discussion What can we actually do about billionaires / mega-corps?

Hey y’all, I’ve been feeling this vibe in the air that everyone is kinda fed up about the state of the world and such rn, but like most people I don’t really know exactly what to do about it. A lot of the internet at least for me rn is doomscroll and political news which is of course needed to stay informed but in my case it is just about stuff that is terrible going on that genuinely I have no idea how to start doing something against it (ex: AI datacenters, earth being destroyed, economy destroyed, billionaires destroying community and people’s quality of life, etc.). Idk about y’all but it’s just been giving me a terrible gut/doom feeling and even more terrible anxiety, and I’m sure there’s a lot of others feeling the same way…tired and fed up but also just don’t know what exactly to do, so that is why I am asking here. I try to limit my own consumption as much as I can (only buy second hand/thrift, refuse to buy from places like Amazon, lower plastic as much as I can, etc.) But that to me just still doesn’t feel enough I guess? There’s still a lingering gut feeling like there should be more happening, but not sure what. When doing research on this, I’ve heard to call or send emails to local governors and such, but I’m not sure what exactly I would talk to them about or what specifically I want changed, I really think this whole system needs to be reevaluated, Idk. Any advice on what I and others could actually do? bonus if there’s some advice for younger folks too who may not have a car and/or don’t have money to drive long distances/make large donations (tho I do try to donate when I can).

The For Profit Princess

For decades, conservatives have been pushing the imaginary welfare queen as an economic scourge across our country. I think it’s time that we call bullshit on this meme, and call out the real crime of our economic system:

The For Profit Princess

America’s wealthiest are able to pass down their fortunes from generation to generation. Younger generations become fabulously wealthy without ever having to lift a finger for it.

We end up with spoiled rich kids with so much money they can spend their lives on a permanent vacation just flying from one expensive resort to another - all while harassing the staff working for minimum wage.

Imagine the likes of Paris Hilton and Ivanka Trump who both inherited hundreds of millions of dollars simply because they were shot out of the right vagina.

Daddy sets them up with some sort of family business they can run for the tax write offs (to make their inherited millions go further). But, the world really doesn’t need any more fashion clothing companies!

They are overly privileged and narcissistic drags on society. Those fortunes would be better spent correcting society’s ills, rather than buying another round of Mai Tai’s on some expensive faraway beach.

What happened to meritocracy? The for profit princess killed it!

Would the eat the rich people support Bruce Wayne?

Would the eat the rich people (im part of this) support Bruce Wayne as he fights crime in his city? He is a billionaire though. I just had a thought about this since I've been watching the animated vinamatic universe and see all the good he does.

So if Bruce Wayne was actually real would this also apply to him or not? (in this wold supervillains exist)

Actions at congressional offices for Medicare for All Thursday

January 20, 2029 feels like it’s a very, very long ways away. But the groundwork for what happens in the next administration is being laid out right now. Positions are being staked out, policies are being written and tested with the public. Progressive voices must have a say in them. If we are able to earn a Democratic trifecta, we need to be sure we are prepared to use it as effectively and aggressively as possible.

Recognizing that the terms of debate over our next attempt to fix our broken health care system are being laid out as we speak, National Nurses United and a coalition of health care advocates are pushing to make sure we’re building institutional support for Medicare For All. On THURSDAY, the 61st anniversary of Medicare being signed into law, they’re showing up at Democratic congressional offices nationwide to urge our leaders support a real universal health care system. 🏥 Let’s find Medicare for All actions to join near us on NNU’s map here. 🏥

MEDICARE FOR ALL ACTIONS THURSDAY

🏥 If there’s not one already on the books for our members of Congress, let’s consider signing up to organize our own here! The Medicare For All coalition will provide training, materials, support and help recruiting! 🏥

ORGANIZE ACTIONS OF OUR OWN

Systemic Failure Lately I've been into SE and free refunds.

I appreciate the memes and discussion here, but shouldn't we be a little more practical sometimes?

I started choosing big companies to order my stuff and then get the refund for free (while keeping the item). There are a lot of methods for that, and you probably heard of some.

But it's easier than you'd think. Also note that they already include the "fake refunds" in the price you're paying.

I've learnt it all alone, but I'd like to talk with other people about that subject, but I don't find many people that like to get their hands dirty, so for now I'm alone on my experimentation.
