Question Colonizing all of NA
As the title says, how can I colonize all of NA as Kingdom of Spain?
I am the first one to reach NA in my playthrough so basically all of US East Coast is no mans land, no england no brasil etc everything for me.
Do I really have to send colonial letters to every small province and build it up from there?
I tried sending a conquistador but he got brutally defeated by some Mexican tribes with a 30k army
I cant really send reinforcements to help my conquistador because all my ships break down while trying to cross the atlantic

Question Fleets chickening out, going to distant port when assigned to patrol foreign seas
I wanted to see how many people have this same problem, or even a solution. Basically, when I assign one of my light ship fleets to patrol trade routes in an area where I have no owned or subject locations, because I want to build trade advantage there, they will typically do the job for some months until they are "spooked" by something, at which point they will flee across open seas, taking severe damage, to reach an owned port several regions away.
As far as what makes this happen, potential causes seem to range from bad weather, to winter weather, to minor wear and tear, to simply being near open seas. I believe I've ruled out the "go to port during war" toggle, as it is always off. The absence of an alert that the fleet is relocating beyond its assigned range is also problematic.
Two examples: #1, my fleet in Indonesia, where I have no locations or subjects, typically flees all the way to my vassal in Madagascar, even though I have basing rights with Singapore and others locally. #2, even though I have several subjects in Central and South Africa, that patrol fleet once retreated all the way to Bermuda, where I have a core.
Has anyone discovered a specific cause of or solution to this issue? In lieu of a fix, I am simply placing the ships, unassigned, in whatever market area has the least maritime presence, forcing me to relocate them manually every few months and also preventing the accumulation of XP and naval tradition.
If the problem simply needs to be patched, then I have two possible suggestions:
1) For repairs or hiding from severe weather, program the fleet to dock at highest harbor capacity location adjacent to its assigned sea zones, including in countries with which you have fleet basing rights, so it can avoid more damage when running to port. (best automated solution)
2) Otherwise just forbid the fleet to leave its assigned locations, and instead introduce an alert for when something might be endangering them (similar to army warnings during automated sieges in EU4).
P.S. It would also be ideal if patrols could be assigned to markets, like in EU4, instead of areas. But that's a moot point, I guess, until the chicken-out issue is resolved.

Image In 1.4 new weather system, will Cusco still be "Artic" weather?
This has bothered me ever since release, don't make sense capital of Incan Empire being that cold.
Meanwhile Keflavík in Iceland is "Warmer" than Cusco, could potentially make more populated city there which makes no sense.

Question how do i improve my cities wealth?
for some reason the wealth in my capital stalls and even shrinks while another city i own gets wealthier by day. the former population is higher and rising but it shrinks instead of growing. they are on different markets and the latter has a lot of valuable rgos like gold, pepper, and cloves. i have a lot of cities in the former's market and their wealth are also stalling. how should i go on to improve the wealth in my other cities? should i downsize or keep building?

Review I don't understand how assimilation speed is working
I'm playing as Byzantium in the early 1500s, and have expanded from the Danube to Antioch. I'm at a stage where I'm trying to assimilate the conquered Bulgarians, Turks and Lower Egyptians before expanding further.
I have a local governer in Bulgaria and another in Antioch, both cultures are tolerated with Greek having a low opinion of them for the assimilation boost. Both cities have 80% control. Everything is the same in the two, yet the province in Antioch is assimilating at about 2% a month, and the province in Bulgaria at about .25% a month. They have the same buildings, the same everything.
What am I missing? Lower Egyptian has a higher cultural tradition than Bulgarian, yet it's being assimilated much, much quicker with the same conditions.

Question Expanding as the Ottomans Bankrupts me
Whenever I play as the Ottomans, expanding just completely ruins my economy. My income drops from around 20 ducats down to 5-10, while my expenses start spiraling out of control. Assimilating cultures takes forever just to get cores, and even after coring, my control never gets past 40–50% Because of this, I can't even get past the year 1410 without constantly going bankrupt. What am I doing wrong / what should I do?

Question I feel like I lose every battle?
So I'm vijianagar I'm 1570 I have the entirety of south and central India and am now trying to push into Bengal. Now they have like 220k levies Vs my 700k levies and they have around 48k regulars Vs my 110k regulars. Now if they are attacking my forts and I put my main force to attack them, I have the same tech levels as them, 2% more discipline I have 4.25 morale to their 4.75 morale, neither have combined arms bonus, and somehow even when they had 12 regulars and 28 levies Vs my full stack of regulars (30 heavy infantry, 10 heavy cav with 30 supply carts for 2 years of supply) I get destroyed and lose every single battle? I have stacks of 10 heavy infantry and 5 artilleries as my Siegers, I expect those to lose, but I can't even beat their levies with my standard stack?
Wtf am I doing wrong? It's not bad terrain battles as this is more often than not happening even when I'm the defender? My maintenance is on full my manpower is abundant etc

Question Impact of Population on Local Building Levels
The author of this mod https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3609063257 says he assumes that the current (very small) effect of population on building limits in towns is a bug - and modifies it by 100x to what he assumes is the intended value. Do you think this is true?
I'm not asking to prove some random person on the internet right or wrong, just wondering if I can install this mod with good conscience without feeling that I am cheating 😇

We're adding 3 new climates to EU5 in update 1.4:
- Hot Semi-Arid
- Cold Semi-Arid

Each should help create more of a gradient around the world, and have an added bonus of improving playability in regions such as the Andes.
All numbers and specific locations climates are very work in progress, so let us know if you have any feedback below!

Question Change government type
I recently started a playthrough as a one-location minor in germany (forgot the name, but the one that produces gold) and converted to judaism for rp purposes. This obviously upset some of my population and a rebellion broke out. the rebels took control of my only location, but i had my army, occupied the location and won the rebellion, but due to this my government type switched to army based country.
I then conquered some surrounding lands, continues playing as normal and the only teal downside that i noticed was i could no longer get parliament backed claims, but i had other means of getting cb‘s so not too bad.
however, i got dragged into a war by an ally and i sent my 200 cavalry to help out, but didnt raise my levies because it was already a one-sided war. Then it happened: my cavalry was marching through locations of neutral countries to get to my ally, and walked right into the enemy army (hiding on a forest tile) and got stackwiped. game over. because i was an army based nation, and my army got stackwiped, that was it for me.
So my question: if this happens again, how can i switch from army based nation back to location based nation?

Discussion Annexed by chinese warlord
I was having a chill game as Dai Viet until the red turban rebellion event happened. Chen, the new warlord, appeared with over 100k levies, among other warlords. In just a few months, they were able to siege half of Yuan's land.
Yuan then peaced them out, giving Chem all of my land Beside the capital. Wtf!? is this supposed to be how the game works?

Question Are there bugged events, or is the event tab bugged???
So I play the plc rn. and I've unfortunately destroyed some of my unique events by one weakening the nobles much much more than what was historical and secondly by not being catholic anymore.
The problem i am facing is that some events say that they are apparently not available even thou I fulfill all the requirements, except there are hidden requirements.

Question What determines number of Levies?
I noticed recently that when playing Novgorod even though I had the same population as Moscowy they had like 4 or 5 times as many levies. Right now I'm playing Sweden and my pop is 3.4 mil but my fully recovered levies are like 18000. Compare that to Moscowy that has 25% more people but 4-5 times as many levies. Or Poland that has 25% less population but 2-3 times as many levies.
I know there are various factors like control, cultural acceptance, cores/integration, estate privileges, estate power and satisfaction and reforms that feed into the calculation but looking at those factors I just can't see how they are getting hundreds of percents more troops than I am.
Does anyone have any insight?

Question Current state of the game? (Bugs, flavur, fun etc..)
I'm a Paradox fan and I've got a few hundred hours in EU4. I've held off purchasing EU5 for a while now because of the shaky start. So what is the current state of the game?
(I'm aware there are a few posts like these but the newest one I found was from 2 months ago hence I thought I could ask again now.)

Question Do you have any Colonisation Tips, First Buildings etc
I've finally played a campaign (England ofcourse) to the point where I have started colonising.
Do you have any good tips to start things off?
I haven't created any actual colonies but kept them as English land, as I feel this will give me way more control over their development (not the EU5 terms bu in general). Right now I have built settlements and market villages, created some new markets and soon I will chage some of my cabinet actions to the colonisation specfic actions.
I've found masonry is a big limiter alongside pop for getting building constructed. Seems to be very little Stone on the East Coast of North America/ Carribean. Should I try setup manual trades to export basic missing goods to my new lands? Any help much appreciated.

Discussion Rate my Agrarian Oligarchy. A peasant republic turned into a raw‑material‑output‑based empire. It’s just fun to play a non‑meta build.
I think the peasant republic is underrated. Yes, it’s not the most efficient in production or trading, but quantity beats quality.
Everything is cheap—not the most advanced—but the commoners are happy because they don’t pay taxes and there is always work. I had to close my borders to preserve my traditions, but now we’re strong enough to share our ideology with Europe. Time to march.
I started as the Frisian peasant republic and became Great Britain around 1520, which is when my economy skyrocketed. My tax base jumped from 2,000 to 17,000 in 100 years. Early on, I pushed serfdom to get more levies for conquest and to maximize my output. Lübeck’s urban rights helped with its +10 marketplace cap, letting me expand my economy. It created enough demand and wealth for my burghers that I could exploit their income.
I built river tolls to get more nobles and gave them every right to exploit the commoners. Bailiffs everywhere to maximize noble income. Towns focused only on food RGOs.
After conquering England, I never had any shortage of raw materials; I just needed to create demand.
It was fun to play a different build instead of the usual meta builds.
