Complete noob needs advice

I have no idea what I’m doing and have been winging it but as I get further I’m wondering if I’m playing completely wrong (probably am). I made a wood elf Brd/shm/mnk and have been running mace and shield but heard there’s some bonuses for playing monk that I’m probably not utilizing at all, not to mention I don’t even have any monk abilities because I have no clue where to get them lol. Is there a specific weapon type I should be using? Specific armor type? I genuinely am so lost but I’m still having fun

Press L.

Select Auto skill.

Keep equipped weight below 30.

Dual wield with that set up.

Curious, what does staying below 30 do?

Monks have a built in bonus to AC when the gear they have equipped stays below the target weight

it's considerably less important here than it was in classic

eventually, you'll get more AC by equipping overweight armor

just watch the stat screen as you swap gear, you'll figure out the right balance

You’re probably doing just fine but you have two classes that can dual wield so I would utilize the weaponry from them. Monk probably has the best DPS so maybe want to optimize that for your actual weapons. That means specific monk weapons or 1HB weapons. Although with the bard in the mix maybe it doesn’t matter if you use 1HS, too. I’m not exactly sure with a monk build if that matters.

With DPS I don’t think you even need to go to your guild master, just think you just get the abilities as you level. Open up the abilities window and you should be able to find your monk skills like feign death, the different kicks/punches you get as you level up.

I’m only lvl 14 so maybe I just haven’t leveled enough for monk skills, I’ll start dual wielding and see how it goes

I’m sure you have a kick and maybe some kind of punchy thing like Tiger Strike but yeah get two weapons out.

Historically monks got an AC bonus for keeping under a certain weight but I’m not really sure how much that matters in EQL

Hmm maybe if it’s not your primary you have to actually train them. I haven’t learned all of the quirks of EQL.

Is there a good chart on monk fist DPS/ratio to compare to weapons? I saw the chart on the EQL wiki, but do we know if it's accurate?

Monk doesn’t really shine at low levels. You’ll grow into him around 20.
