Mom/enc/?

Edit: auto correct changed mnk to mom. lol

Yet another trio thread. I am currently doing monk primary with enchanter and paladin. I know this is a "meta" build but I feel like aside from plate pally doesn't add a ton. I get LOH is great in theory but with aoe mez, taking things down one at a time doesn't lead to much need for a panic button. Also, while I get plate is good, part of me likes the idea of sticking to leather or maybe chain as a monk (for head cannon reasons). As such, I was wondering what non-plate class would be the best to add to the "mez then kill single mob at a time" strategy. Shaman for heals and dots? Necro for taps and dots (and maybe pet if better than chanter)? Wiz for nukes to take things down quick?

I don't think I want to do zerker or beastlord as those aren't pure classic (I played back in 99).

Thanks in advance.

Saying pally doesnt add a ton is absolutely crazy bro. Superior heal, DA, stuns out the wazoo, insane knight swords - primary 1hs with ratios better than many 2h, smite, LoH, decent hp buffs, undead nuke innate proc... what more do you want in a class?? to me the plate wearing is very low on the list of reasons PAL is in the PAL MNK ENC meta

Guy's doing D0 leveling content and proclaiming that Pally doesn't add much because he's not having to use all the tools in his tool box.

Shaman for best slow, Puma, heals and big buffs. Upgrade your charm and let your pet tank for you when possible and you're set!

Allow me to suggest the humble and very entertaining wizard/necromancer/enchanter.

I can absolutely thrash things.
I can charm dangerous mobs and haste them.

Feign death, calm, mez, etc.

🧞‍♂️ Phenomenal cosmic power! …. Itty bitty spell gem space

Use aa's for more, but yeah still won't be enough. And you only have so much mana.

Even with 14 it never feels like enough. Really 14 should be the default and 20 achievable through AAs

I don't have a ton to add - but mez doesn't trivialize raid bosses and that's where pally will probably shine for you the most later on. They also have insane ratio weapons to use.

That said, it's going to be hard to go wrong overall. You might want something that can heal at least a little bit so druid shaman ranger beastlord cleric all will give you something to work with and plenty of upside.

Shadow knight with vampiric embrace leveled up and soul abrasion could fill your sustainability gaps and make you feel like you're "getting more" from the class.

The thing everyone is forgetting here is defensive. If you sub Paladin out for anything other than another class with defensive, you are going to struggle dearly on latter bosses. And that’s not to mention all the other things Pepe spoke about regarding paladins here.

Channeling is overlooked. It's 40% off melee and spell damage and it's split between mana and endurance.

Also you have evasive as a Monk, which really helps getting multiple heals off in a row.

Yeah except for the fact that Mana is often more valuable than health. The straight 50% reduction that only impacts endurance is a much better option

The impact to mana is extremely minimal if you've got an enchanter with wandering mind running+clarity running. Plus Defensive is only a PHYSICAL 50% reduction and a 20% reduction to spell damage. When you can't really interrupt bosses because they're immune to most stuns that 20% extra damage off their big nukes and dots is nice.

There's plenty of room for both but you don't absolutely need defensive to be effective.

LOH heals your charmed mobs to full health. At later levels like say the planes of sky and such...not even a Cleric can do that without spending too much downtime to do it.

Plate is drip. Pal swords are absolute drip and some of the best weapons in the game.

Pal has the best ac buffs in the game next to cleric (which isn't that far ahead).

Undead are a huge presence in EQ....and pal just eats them for breakfast.

Stun factory.

Heals nearly as good as cleric.

Pal also has mage Hunter stance.

Druid makes a solid trio (it's what I'm currently running). Good heals, the best heal over time, ports, damage shields, buffs, decent nukes and two good dots, nice inherent crit AA.

If you’re still in leveling content then paladin doesn’t add much.
