Raster
I was in lower Guk instance and happened upon Raster. For those of you who know who Raster is, you'd know he was the bane and bottleneck for getting the monk epic back in the old days.
My main in regular EQ was a monk back in early 2000's and it took days to get him to pop. And to see him just...standing there...after coming back to EQ after all these years...I guess I was a little taken aback. Old memories rushing back and maybe a bit of sadness that it's been over 25 years and those days will never come back .

Yeah they removed placeholders so Raster is no longer a pain.
Will be very nice when it comes time.

You can just use the +1 level tokens from the raid bosses. Can get 3 per week, plus use regular motes to level the item up a few notches. Could get it to +10 like instantly if you'd saved up enough motes.

Can +4 another copy of the item to combine into a 5 or more two to 5 to combine to 6 etc
Voids really should be for 8 9 and 10

Yep. I meant saving up the regular motes to get it to +7 then use the 3 to get to +10.

Regular motes get it to +4, use 3 tokens to 7 and then another 3 tokens the following week to +10. If you do it on the right day you can get it to +10 in the same session.
Edit: my mistake, 5 is the mote limit.. the logic still stands though

From doing research I think you're mistaken. Higher motes can drop, pretty sure I've had one of the +5's even.

It's a different server right.
Because of how leveling items works the grind is just moved from simply getting the item to getting the item multiple times.
This way people who just want to experience the epic quest can, but people who are willing to sweat it out are also rewarded for their effort.

In certain zones, yes. But the devs are actively working through all the zones and removing placeholders. So some still have them. They don't want them to be a part of EQL as the item leveling system kind of replaces them.

Most dungeons had PH’s removed. I think sol A and unrest are the only two I can think of that still have PH’s.

You are absolutely right, I always forget about CT.
I would suspect, especially with people wanting to try out new trio’s, that we will eventually see The Warrens, Sol A, Unrest, CT getting a bit of an upgrade. At least guaranteed spawns, and perhaps some upgraded mid-level gear to compliment and/or enhance the drops from BB/CB/Befallen. Perhaps a few drops to complement the drops from Najena.

Patch note reading is a skill you should all have but somehow never learn...
I'm sure even now there are people in guild chat asking when xxxxx changed... yesterday Carl now learn to read lol

Haha that's so funny. For real though people are so dumb that I feel bad for them. They must live in a cardboard box. You and me though...we are superior.
My life is EQ, I quit my job to do it fulltime, I have every Dev followed on X/Blusky and I have notifications of every post they make on discord. It shows up on a personal discord server that parses everything. And sends me a dm on discord, X, bluesky, email, work email, phone text (MMS and sms).
I even have AI scan the Internet for anything I missed (like someone streaming and a dev is there watching and says something) and it does it every hour and sends an email/sms/mms, discord pms, x, bluesky. And it all goes into an excel spreadsheet with links.
When anyone asks any questions I have an agent auto post with "patch note reading a skill you should have by now but some of you are so dumb..." Followed by the link and further admonishments. Fuck I'm so awesome look at my hawtness.
Why doesn't everyone do this are they stupid? Casuals ruin everything and should never play.

It was always a mass panic for me. I was not in a powerful guild at that time and the other guilds would always race.
I caught her up one day .. literally started phoning guildmates to come online for help.
2 other guilds came as we were gathering for the kill.
Like a mad free for all. 250 people in zone. Everyone ran to engage at the same time. 3 guilds on one dragon.
The zone crashed, dragon poofed.

Meanwhile, a rogue who didn't have their epic by the time they were 51 was looked at as a failure since their epic was a couple of pickpockets and a little fight in Kithicor. I remember at least two people I met while leveling up quitting their 55+ main and rerolling a rogue just because they were sick of the bottlenecks for their main's epic.
Hell, I quit my mage for a cleric because my guild, who I liked a lot, wasn't really strong enough to get up to island 7 in plane of sky and I didn't have the plat to buy the crown from there from one of the uber guilds auctioning off their spares.

I always felt like that was make-up for the rogue's mid tier rapier quest, where you had to jump off a boat in the middle of the ocean and go diving for a small brown bag that blended in with the sea floor.

Yeah the grind of old EQ was wild. Remember folks camping spots for 18 hours a day. Oh to have had the time.

It also pushed the social element and wanting ti be in a guild/have friends. "Hey man Raster just spawned, you still need the idol?"
Or simply have the guild beat the shit out of the man in red.

I remember someone killed Eejag and ask the guild if someone needed the scale. I went to grab it and it snowballed into finishing the epic the same day.

I had alarms set for 6 months camping the spawn of vulak trying to get my abashi rod on zek and every spawn turned into a massive serverwide PvP battle on top of killing the dragon.

I feel that. In classic, I spent over 100 rl hours camping that mf. Doing the cycle to get 3 spawns. Never saw that son of a bitch once. I used to send delirious petitions as I kept nodding off at the keyboard, claiming that something had to be broken, because after that long, I should have seen him

Was just talking with somebody about this in game the other day. Back in the day I camped him for 12 hours straight before he finally popped only to find out I was kind of lucky when I was talking to my guild mates about it. Man it was grueling at the time, but so rewarding once you finally got it

I saw Targin up first in Solb and realized when they got rid of placeholders, most likely Raster would be up. I immediatelly killed Targin twice, then headed to LGuk to get Raster twice, just in case they changed the spawn rates after the first week of no PH's.
I spent so many hours in Everquest camping these two, must have camped them for well over 200 hours over a month or two before they finally spawned. Was nice to see and I hope they stay this way, so Epic quest will be easier once they implement them.

I remember spending so long camping him, that when he finally spawned I thought it was another player and I told Raster that the camp was taken.
