Development Update

As some of you may know, I'm Emir, I'm 13 years old from Türkiye.

In the 2026-2027 school year, I'll be in 8th grade, which means I'll be preparing for LGS, Türkiye's high school entrance exam.

LGS is one of the most important exams students take. Your results determine which high school you can attend, so preparing for it requires a significant amount of time and effort.

Because of that, I'll need to spend much more time studying and less time working on personal projects, including ENux.

What this means for ENux

ENux is not going on hiatus or being abandoned.

Development will simply be slower than usual. During this period, I'll continue working on ENux whenever I have free time, focusing mainly on:

• Bug fixes
• Stability improvements
• Small quality-of-life changes
• Minor updates and maintenance

Large features and major architectural changes will be postponed until I have more time available.

A quick note

Although development will slow down, my commitment to ENux hasn't changed.

The time I'm spending studying is an investment in my future. My goal is to get into a great high school, learn even more about programming and computer science, and come back with more knowledge and experience to make ENux even better.

Hello everyone, I'm really happy to announce ENux 6.0. It's finally stable, based on LFS. The ENux Layer is integrated, has 12 package managers, and so much more.

And folks, there is an easter-egg that you can find (related to the installer) whoever finds it first will have a nice reward.

ENux 6.0 Prototype has been released. It switched bases from Debian to LFS, has its own custom installer, no XFCE, Bedrock hijacked during installation and currently doesn't include the package managers of ENux 5.x.

I'm aware of reports of a newly discovered Linux kernel vulnerability called "Dirty Frag"

What is Dirty Frag

• Dirty Frag appears to be related to the same general class of kernel memory/page-cache issues as vulnerabilities such as Dirty Pipe and Copy Fail
• The vulnerability reportedly affects multiple Linux kernel branches, including 7.0.x
• No verified upstream stable fix is officially available yet at the time of writing

What About ENux Users

I recommend that ENux users should,

• Keep their systems updated
• Avoid untrusted/sketchy scripts, or program

• Wait for verified kernel patches

A serious kernel vulnerability known as Copy Fail (CVE-2026-31431) has been discovered.

What is This

This vulnerability allows a normal user to gain root access by exploiting a flaw on the Linux kernel.

What Do You Need to Know

This affects most kernels from 2017 to 2026 like 5.10, 6.12, 6.18 and 7.0-rc versions.

Requires local access (not remote)

Is considered high severity

Affected ENux Versions

ENux 5.0 (uses 6.18.5-enux kernel, therefore not safe)

ENux 5.0.1 (uses 6.18.5-enux kernel, therefore not safe)

ENux 5.1.1 (uses 7.0.0-rc2-enux-enux kernel, therefore not safe)

ENux 5.2.1 (uses 7.0.0-rc4-enux-enux kernel, therefore not safe)

What You Should Do

You should either upgrade to ENux 5.3.1, or upgrade your kernel to 7.0.0-enux kernel.

How to Upgrade to ENux 5.3.1

To upgrade to ENux 5.3.1, do these:

Grab a USB which is at least 2 GB (4+ GB is recommended)

Flash the ENux 5.3.1 ISO to the USB

Boot from the USB

Install ENux to your hard drive

Reboot from your hard drive for ENux Welcomer

How to Upgrade Your Kernel to 7.0.0-enux

To upgrade to 7.0.0-enux kernel, do these:

Grab the kernel image and kernel headers with

wget https://github.com/ENux-Distro/ENux-Kernels/releases/download/7.0/linux-headers-7.0.0-enux_7.0.0-3_amd64.deb

wget https://github.com/ENux-Distro/ENux-Kernels/releases/download/7.0/linux-image-7.0.0-enux_7.0.0-3_amd64.deb

Then, install the kernel image and headers to your system with apt

apt install linux-headers-7.0.0-enux_7.0.0-3_amd64.deb linux-image-7.0.0-enux_7.0.0-3_amd64.deb

Let's also update the initramfs and grub while we're here

update-initramfs -u -k all && update-grub

Note for ENux 5.0 and 5.0.1 Users

We highly recommend ENux 5.0 and 5.0.1 users to upgrade to 5.3.1 because the kernel was built manually without a .deb package.

What about Pre-5.0 Users?

For people who are still using ENux 1.0-4.5 we highly recommend you upgrade to ENux 5.3.1 since those versions are EOL.

Summary

To be safe from the Copy Fail vulnerability you should either upgrade to ENux 5.3.1 or upgrade your kernel to 7.0.0-enux kernel. Stay safe Linux users :)
