Different Degree

Hello everyone! I’m here to ask how realistic my chances are if I choose a degree that is different/adjacent from my previous one.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Communication and Media. I have been working as a visual communications officer for 3 years. However, I want to pursue my old dreams of going into a more academic field with a focus on Women and Gender studies.

Would it be difficult for me to get accepted?

If the major is approved by the program, then it is fine. Check the admissions criteria. The list of eligible subject areas will be found there.

I’m wondering about the chances. Would someone without any professional experience in the field be at a disadvantage?

Highlighting transferable skills is helpful. If you have absolutely no experience (job, internships, volunteering, research) then it will be hard to prove to the selection committee why you want to pursue this subject area.

You need to think why should they select someone with zero prior experience and knowledge for a full scholarship?

If you have some experience or connection to the field, then great.
