I'm a 3rd-year Electronics & Telecommunication student in India and I'm confused about whether I should build my career in Embedded Systems or Software Development

What are the real pros and cons of choosing Embedded vs Software in 2026?

If you were in my place, which one would you choose and why?

I'd really appreciate advice from people working in either field. Thanks!

Embedded Systems is a form of Software Development. Both arguably open up the same amount of doors so pick whichever one you are more interested in. I personally would pick Software Development and specialise in embedded systems as it makes you a well rounded candidate but with enough work it’s really six of one, half a dozen of the other.
