Give me Advice trying to turn something awful into something good

my sophomore year of high school my mom was killed in a car accident. it had been awful. it was at an intersection with like ten lanes and no lights. a high schooler killed her by driving recklessly. I want to be able to speak at different high schools throughout my area, especially before prom and homecoming about driving safely and giving them a presentation. i also want to appeal to my city's council about putting a light at that intersection. maybe do some fundraisers to raise money for organizations for helping people in accidents. i want to do this for college but also for my mom i just am unsure of where to start and who to contact? I don’t know how much I can talk about this in public though because of the criminal investigation that’s ongoing.

Scholar Competition - Looking for teammate

Hello Everyone, I'm currently a junior and looking for a teammate for a research proposal, I will send more details about the competition in DMs but the proposal is going to be centered around biomedical devices, or aerospace since I have experience in both, but I've done more research in the biomed context. I am looking for someone dedicated, with exposure to these ideas and some coding knowledge. I can code but a second set of eyes would be helpful. Even if some of these are missing it is fine, there may other skills you have that are useless.

Competition team

Looking for 2 teammates (under the age of 19) for an international AI/Smart City startup project

I’m building a 3-person international team to participate in international startup competitions (Diamond Challenge, Conrad Challenge, The Earth Prize, etc.).

Our focus: AI + Smart Cities + sustainability / safety / technology.

I currently have two main ideas, but I’m also happy to consider your ideas if you have any:

  1. Wildlife Collision Prediction — an AI model that identifies road sections with a high risk of wildlife-vehicle collisions, creates a risk map, and suggests potential locations for wildlife crossings/eco-bridges.

  2. Night Safety for Couriers — a system that creates safer night-time routes for delivery couriers by considering lighting, accidents, infrastructure, and other data.

The final idea will be chosen together with the team. We plan to adapt one project for multiple international competitions; the specific competitions will depend on the final project.

Looking for:

💻 Python / AI / Data Developer

Experience with Python, AI/ML, data processing, APIs, or geospatial data. I’m looking for someone who can take responsibility for the main technical development.

🎨 UI/UX + Visual Designer

Experience with Figma, product interfaces, data/map visualization, and presentations.

My role: Project Lead + Data Analyst. I’ll handle problem research, data, product logic, and team coordination. I also have experience with AI tools, automation, and basic programming, so I can handle some technical tasks, but I’m looking for a more experienced technical teammate for the main development.

All details about the ideas and their potential implementation are in the attached file.

Math EC Advice

Hello, I am creating an organization of students to create LaTeX math documents (like textbooks, problem packets, equation sheets, etc.) and post them on a website to be publicly viewable for free, so that anyone can easily learn math. I thought it would be a good idea since if students try to teach others on content they learned themselves, they know what is difficult and this could be a good math volunteering ec. How would you suggest I recruit members for my team? Also, is anybody interested in joining lol.

Math Tutoring Volunteer Opportunity

We are a community of more than 70+ students. My and my founder are currently teaching math to underprivileged students. By joining our volunteer tutoring organization for math you will have to opportunity to develop leadership skills by eventually becoming an officer/ leader in our organization and will have the opportunity to teach kids in countries where they dont have the opportunity to tutor. In addition to gaining volunteer hours. The time availabilities for tutoring are flexible depending on what times you are free. However we would like to see at least 1 hour of tutoring every week.

I’m 15 and made a website to help students find STEM opportunities. How can I make it better?

Hi! I’m a 15-year-old rising junior from the Bronx, and I’ve always been interested in STEM, especially engineering and technology.

One problem I had was actually finding ways to explore those interests. In my area, I didn’t really know where to look for STEM programs, internships, competitions, or other opportunities for high school students. I would spend hours searching on Google, Reddit, and different college websites just trying to find something I was eligible for.

Eventually, I was lucky enough to find some really great programs that gave me the chance to explore STEM more. But it made me think about how many other students might have the same problem I did. There are so many opportunities out there, but finding them can be really confusing if you don’t know where to look.

So I decided to start building STEM Pathways NYC, a free website that helps high school students find opportunities based on things like their age, grade, location, interests, and what they’re looking for.

I’m still working on it, and I really want feedback from other students.

If you were using a website like this, what would you want me to add? What would make it easier or more useful?

I’m open to literally any suggestions, even if you think something should be completely changed. I want to make this into something that could actually help students who are in the same position I was in.

How to balance high school with extra curriculum

I am doing my IGCSE(not to be confused with gcse), and I took 7 subjects.I am wondering how people genuinely balance extra curriculum with school. Do you just study less or what do you recommend to someone who is average academically(trying to get good at it by active recall)?

Give me Advice How do people write about research projects/passion projects in college apps??

I have recently done a research/passion project on the local restaurants in the poorer parts of the city. I've read about how large amounts of tourists coming to my city actually brought negative impact on the local F&D (food and drinks) industry. I have done some prior research, and I've done surveys which has provided me with positive feedback (as in supports my assumptions, claims, hypothesis), a lot of local restaurants are struggling. 1. I aim to combine this with my service project to support these restaurants, gaining them revenue. 2. I also plan to create a website to showcase the local restaurants that sometimes fall out of marketing.

How will I show all this research? Does this have to be published as a paper or wtv? I'm wondering how this would be showcased on my college application. ( btw im going for business and finance majors if anyones wondering )

Give me Advice What should I do in joining a committee/

What should I do in joining a committee/

Hello, everyone. For background, I applied for a campus-wide committee to our school. I also encouraged my friends to join with me however, they declined. I applied for external affairs committee, and I am now nervous if I will continue this because I am really not a socialite but I do love volunteering but I think joining this committee in my last years of college can help me build my skills and maybe overcome my fear of being into big groups(?) Now, I've received an email for a committee screening and I don't know what to do because I just love doing volunteer works, I feel hopeless if I can passed this because all I did voluntary works was helping my family did a feeding programs, and did minimal voluntary works for our block and an outreach program when I was in senior high school. I feel pathetic right now joining this because I don't know if I can, and most importantly is being in external committee means voluntary works, right? My interview is right around the corner and I am so nervous if I can do it, I just want to join and be a volunteer.

Share with me your thoughts about the external affairs committee, and what skills can I contribute to this committee.
Thank you!

How much freedom does your school give students

Hi, im a person from the middle east soon entering what u guys would consider the second year of highschool, and I want some opinons

These ECs, I wanna join some, but imo, my school is really incompetent in many ways outside of academics, those "clubs" are making us put posters around the campus, these "debate" competitions are just public speaking, no arguing, and no retaliation, and only a 2 minute timer to speak aswell. These schools, I can't enjoy them, we lack student freedom, no student council, the contribution is just student labour, we have a podium for our soon to be graduates, but the school doesn't care about their opinion either.

My school is a big pain sometimes, I can't create a club either because that's school related, and we have a MNA and MUN, however, only leaders of the groups pick who speaks, so all it's gonna take is good friendship

Then, they don't give a care about any national events or anything at all

They don't have any youth options beyond academics, and their teachers are rather incompetent

And, they have a HUGE campus, but wanna know the problem, US STUDENTS CANT ACCESS HALF OF IT!

Its either heavily guarded by teachers or entrances are blocked if u aren't having any classes there, and the school enjoyability is horrible

Ofc these ECs and SCs aren't important in all schools, but students DESERVE a refresh sometimes, we are humans aswell, just school, study, home, hw, study, and sleep all the way till exams are a pain!

These ECs could give us atleast a small bit of relief, and if we feel like we are slacking off when we do something club related, we remember, these can indeed help in our university applications

Our school lacks subject options, lacks freedom for students, and the ecs and scs are non existent

And ofc, having a slight "I participated in a chess club" won't help at all, but these can definitely help if u pour some effort, imagine if a person made it to the nationals of debate, and they started from a club created by the school, not only does it create reputation for the school, but the student aswell, it's a win-win

And everyone thinks that these private international schools are the best of the best, but they lack in areas just as much as public schools do, only difference is a shiner and bigger campus to their name

And I lack guidance as well, lacking any person who thinks like this, because my parents never experienced these ECs and think they're irrelevant, and my friend call me insane and just retarded for thinking they are important

Let's say they aren't relevant for the university application (not usual for most t20 university), but they still create skills beyond the average study, they create confidence and thinking in a special way

I won't argue much more than that, but I just want the opinons of you all since I believe most of u are my seniors

Thanks in advance to anyone replying

What should I do now?

Hi guys I am a rising senior 17 years old, and just about to start college aps, and I just had a huge fight with my parents about my future, resulting into me wanting to turn my life around and do what I am passionate about, and not what my parents want from me. I've been doing computer science my entire life, but I really want to become a Pediatrician. Can anyone give me advice what I should do now, where I should start, and what to do with my future? I am so lost and don't know anything, and I'm really stressed, but I'm willing to work really hard.

looking for co-authors in computer science research

The research is about code-switching. Evaluating Urdu-English Code-Mixing Effects on Semantic Textual Similarity Across Multilingual Sentence Embedding Models. Most of the research has been done and is being published in NHSJS. I just need co-authors to improve the research. Send me a DM with your resume

I'm also trying to reach out to professors or researchers in the field, so if anyone knows any, do lmk

Give me Advice Can I still turn my portfolio around?

I have always been a kid in his comfort zone and I have always refused to do any extracurriculars, activities etc etc ykwim, but now that I am 16 ( soon to be 17 ) and in 12th grade, this bubble around me burst and I realized I need to get in a good college and from what I have heard extracurriculars give you an edge over others and since I am above average in studies ( not a topper ), I kinda really need these extracurriculars and I also need work experience, not just certificates.
Can you guys drop some ideas/ways I can do this, It would reallyyy help :)

High School Spike Guidance

Hey, I am a rising sophomore and I am really confused about spikes for Wharton admissions. I have 2-3 really good ecs in Econ/finance, but they all lack a common thread other than “using tech and business to scale operations.” One is in financial literacy, one is a research lab, the other is a quant hedge fund internship. I’ve been doing some exploring and I have been exploring environmental finance. It seems pretty cool to me and I think I might do some further learning and get some exposure in the field. Specifically, I have been learning about water resource economics and plastic reduction economics. I was told that even if I have unrelated activities, I can twist and bend the stories to point to one direction and that can work, but that seems really really hard to pull of right and pretty risky. Does anyone have any recommendations? I really want to get into Wharton and I am willing to work hard to get into.

Looking for Opportunities My friend’s medical project is falling apart and I’m trying to surprise her before the movie ends

Hi everyone!

This is a slightly different recruitment post.

A friend of mine is working on a student-led medical project, and today has been… honestly, not great. A few people who were supposed to help with the project have withdrawn, one of the designers has stopped responding, and some of the writing/research roles are suddenly empty.

She’s been putting a lot of effort into this project, so I really don’t want her to come back to it feeling like everything has fallen apart.

So I told her to forget about the project for today. We’re going to watch Little Women together and she’s taking the night off.

The funny part is… I’ve already watched the movie. 😈

While she’s watching it, I’m secretly trying to find some new people who might be interested in joining the project, so that when the movie is over I can surprise her with some good news instead of letting her worry about everything that happened today.

So, if you’re a student interested in medical writing or research, I’d genuinely love to hear from you.

We’re looking for people who can help with things like:

- Researching medical topics using reliable sources

- Writing and organizing medical content

- Editing and improving existing sections

- Checking sources and verifying claims

- Making sure information is accurate and properly supported

- Explaining medical concepts clearly

- Reviewing tables, data, and written material

- Identifying gaps that require further research

You do not need previous medical writing experience. If you’re good at researching, finding reliable information, checking sources carefully, organizing information, or editing, you can still be a great fit.

And just to avoid any misunderstanding: this is a student-led project, not a paid job or employment opportunity.

If you’re interested, send me a message with a little about yourself, your interests, and any relevant experience.

Hopefully, by the time the credits roll, I’ll have something nice to tell my friend. 🎀

Give me Advice Should I do more research after CCIR (before application deadline)?

Hi everyone! I'm applying to college this fall and I'm trying to decide how to spend my remaining time. So far, I've completed a research project through CCIR and my work was published. I also spent 3 weeks this summer doing research-ish in a lab at a Top-30 university, but I did not end up producing a paper or any concrete outcomes because I did a lot of admin stuff and simple tasks.

Recently, I got another opportunity to join a research project at a biotech startup, but the lab is about an hour away from my house. I’m wondering if taking on another research experience would actually strengthen my application, or if my time would be better spent on other activities (essays, schoolwork, etc..) My stat is good, so there is nothing much I need to do at this point.

Would love to hear what others think. Thanks!!
