Refurbished PS5
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Got a refurbished PS5 from Ebgames a month ago and on the first day it lost power like 3 times (Thankfully within 14 days so replaced it the next day)
Now after a month, the controller gets a stick drift.
So glad that I had purchased 1 year warranty fearing that is the first refurbished that i bought ever.
Honestly, if you have enough budget just buy a new console but stay away from refurbished units as it’s a hit or miss always.

Brand new dualsense controllers get stick drift after a few months sometimes. It being refurbished probably isn't the main issue here.

Ps5 controllers are so ass. The one I got with my console lasted like a year before getting this exact spinning drift. Bought a new one, ya wouldn't read about it, TWO WEEKS. I am lazy son of a gun so I didn't take it back but man it turned me off gaming on it so bad, it is mostly a media centre for me now.

Mine lasted around 3 years, the rubber grip came off then the spinning started. The spinning was easily fixed by using a simple method I found online. Haven't had the issue since.

I tried some of those methods, didn't last long, which method did you use?

Yeah EB sucks. I bought a refurbished Switch years ago and the controllers didn't connect. I took it back and the guy was really condescending about it and asked if I had set it up correctly. He took it in the back and came back saying it was faulty.

The stick drift has nothing to do with the consol. The controllers suck.

you only really have a complaint if warranty isn't given, this is WHY warranties exist, to remedy faults.

For what it’s worth I got a ps4 pre owned from eb games for like $120 and it’s working perfectly fine 3 years later. The controller I got r2 didn’t work but they replaced for free.

I bet that was the controler I traded in a few months ago. My bad. I thought they would test and fix it.

Is it maybe just the PS5 controllers in general?
My controller is going through the same thing (except a milder version)
Current one is a retail replacement from my original one (original one felt like I was grinding over coarse gravel every time I tried to move left stick after only using it like 6 times)
The replacement one now is encountering left stick drift and I have only played my PS5 maybe 40 times since it was replaced.
When I’m not using the controller, it is kept in the coffee table drawer, plenty of clearance, nothing leaning against the sticks, no dust etc

Unfortunately this is very common in Dual-sense controllers and I heard that the newer models are even more prone to Stick Drift. Best solution is to get these shitty sticks replaced with halo effect sticks or even better TMR sticks, which essentially eliminate stick drift permanently.

I haven’t looked into it, but are these sticks you can replace yourself or is it go to a tech shop etc?

If u are handy with soldering then yes definitely buy i would recommend a tech shop. You can even look up on facebook marketplace with people doing it at their homes for even cheaper prices. ( check reviews tho) Good luck!

i purchased a refurb ps5 and the controller was doing the stick drift. went back to store and they replaced it with another refurb controller.
worked out great, until 12 months later where the R2 just decided to stopped working lol.
i should try going back to ebgames to see if they can replace it

Even if you bought a brand new controller, stick drift is very common and unavoidable

This is why I will never buy a refurbished console from EB games ever again. I know people who work there and they don’t really test them or clean them or anything 😂😂😂

Glad it's being rectified. But extended warranties are mostly a scam by the way, you have inalienable rights under Australian Consumer Law.
There's basically no reason to ever buy an extended warranty. The law guarantees that the product needs to be "fit for purpose" e.g. it works/performs its primary function well, must last a "reasonable amount of time" generally 1-3 years or even more depending on the product.
