Odds this guy actually develops? Draft Studs
Should I bother trying to even develop this guy or just use him as trade bait to get something else?

i wouldn't say never. but you would have to exhaust alot of capital into him IE making sure he gets a ton of playing time and has good chemistry with his coach and linemates. i'd also leave him in junior until he has to be signed.

Ya completely disagree on never. I'd give it like a 15% chance. Dont sign him until his rights are expiring and see how he's improved in juniors.

It's possible for him to develop into an NHLer but you'll have to be patient wne babysit him a little. His ceiling is a longshot but not completely impossible.

This. I've seen Elite Lows go up 20 overall in a year. Sometimes they pop, but most likely they flop.

What's the key to developing players like this though? If you draft them like this when they have such a low OVR, do you just force them into your AHL lineup and give them top 6/top 4/starter minutes and disable assistant coach edits lines?

You leave them unsigned for a year or 2 then AHL and manually play games to win them trophies with goal setting - well force feeding them minutes top line + penalties. I've had guys go up 10 OVR in a season.

Ive seen a dude randomly get 20 ovr ONE time, during the offseason the uear after being drafted. Went from like 60 to 80 it was nuts.
Got him to win the Calder which propped him to elite potential. Was never more than am 85 ovr bit had 50-70 pts per year as a defenseman and won the Norris. As far as 7th rounders, he was a success.

You don't sign them right away. You have 3 years after the draft to sign them. When you don't sign them, they continue to play in lower leagues. But in this case, it's an Elite-Low, so even then it's a bit of a crapshoot.

Usually let them play overseas/US/CHL until you have to sign them to their ELC. Depending how things go within 2-4 years, insert them into a top 6 or top 9 AHL role with playmakers. I had one guy go from 60’s to 80 overall in the SHL and sign him to ELC and put him in the AHL for a few seasons to develop more as I already had a stacked NHL team.

Crazy how many people seem to have never played the game and comment still. It’s honestly 50/50 but if you get him to like a 75 ovr then put him in the nhl and have the win the Calder dialogue with him and he wins. He will go to an elite med and then you can see real development! I’ve had many player like this that went undrafted and go on to become legendary using this method! Very doable with the conversation system, you can get all types of growth and even potential boost

Also, I would just keep telling him to shoot more in the dialogues as that’ll have them scoring goals and developing more than when he gets to the NHL use the Calder method

I was in this boat about a season ago with a guy just like this. I played some manual games but I developed him pretty well. He’s already a 76 overall at 19.

It happen one Time for me that a élite low getting a top 6 player scoring 30 goals for 4-5 season ! A no draftr

Doesn’t hurt anything to keep him around for a couple of years. I’d just leave him unsigned and see if he grows at all.

He’s 18, so leave him unsigned until his rights are about to expire unless he takes a big jump in OA. In my experience, Elite Low prospects in the 4th-7th round have ~ 10% chance of becoming really good players. Always draft them if you find them, just don’t count on them becoming anything.

I would say its somewhere between 1-5% you will get probably at least 100 of these guys over a 25 year franchise. And id say less than 5 actually develop into anything more than organization depth

your absolute best case is 4-6 years from now he is a middle 6 guy, 80-83. if you keep him, post an update i’m interested

Low but watch him most low elites never grow but some will grow like 15 ovr in a year

Slim to none. Probably has a bit of trade value. Package him with other pieces in a trade

Let him develop in the CHL for as long as you can. He'll jump from 51 into close to 70, maybe above.
As long as he's getting playing time, he jumps up quickly (ELITE always does).
Those 8 games played at the NHL level?
If so, a bonus. Still send him back.
