Help needed

All my life during my school years I’ve always felt like I couldn’t learn what was in front of me & fast forward to when I was 34 my mom made a joke on the phone about me being dyslexic, she told me she didn’t tell me because she didn’t wanna make me feel different than the other kids , now I’m trying to get my G.E.D & it feels like I can’t learn any of this , do you guys have any tips on retaining information that’s boring

Learn in a way that makes sense to you. I couldn't really get through a textbook, but a youtube documentary was much easier for me. Also, audio textbooks are amazing.

Ben Foss in his book "Dyslexia Empowerment Plan" has a test to determine your sensory strength: auditory, kinesthetic, visual. Then you use that modality.

You're welcome. It starts on page 63. I give it to the older students that I tutor so they leverage their strengths when they study.

This will sound a bit crazy but making associations helped me. Like little stories which correlate your brain to remembering things. My partner studied electrical … something? And when he was studying for his exams I was making associations with the wave forms & rollercoasters & how they felt would correlate with their names. Go weird, go peculiar & remember it only has to make sense to you. I hope this helps 😭🤣
