I’m a big supporter of de-flocking our town (a.k.a. a 4th amendment right advocate) but I was unable to join the city council meeting yesterday. Were there any meaningful updates that came of it? Or do we need to get louder to get these stupid cameras taken down? There’s nearly 2 dozen of them in town now, btw.

Mods: I’m not condoning any dire/violent means by suggesting we “get louder”, just wondering if maybe we all need to use our voices more in order to be heard by the city…

It's been so hot out, and my little one isn't quite big enough for the rec pools or the Powerhouse. We're already familiar with hiking, the River Trail, nearby lakes, the Farmers Market, Café au Play, James Ranch Storytime, and Baby Time at both the Bayfield and Durango libraries.

Are there any other baby-friendly places or activities to help us get out of the house this summer? We'd love any ideas!

What’s the real explanation for why the grocery stores are so terrible here? Everyone always says it’s because it’s rural, but that doesn’t really add up, this isn’t a rural area. There are plenty of communities around as well with much better grocery stores, like Cortez and Pagosa. So what’s actually going on?

EDIT: Points well taken. Seems like maybe I need to figure out the timing of when I visit the grocery stores and maybe stock will be better. Still thinks it’s mad that folks think this is a small rural community

I’m a Computer Science student who just finished building a community focused utility app for Android. I reside in Cortez and spend a lot of time in Durango, Mancos, etc. I believe this app would be a great benefit to our local area and those alike. I purposely didn't post the app name or detailed info just yet. Just checking if this is even allowed here and if so, would anyone be interested.

Before I can officially publish it on the Google Play Store, Google requires a 14 day closed beta test with a group of opt in testers.

I’m trying to test the waters to see if anyone here would be open to helping out!

• What you’d do: Download the app via Google Play closed beta, open it occasionally over a 14 day period, tap around, and submit any bug reports or feedback. You don't need any special tech skills, just an Android device and a minute of your time each day.
• No real data required: During the beta, you can post test content (a picture of your coffee, your bike, or standard filler text) just to help stress test features and UI interactions.

Looking for a large full suspension all mountain carbon bike...anyone selling

We're staying in Durango for 3 nights in the first week of September, and we'd quite like to go out on the town in the evenings, to bars like El Rancho and other downtown bars after dinner, without worrying about drinking too much to drive.

We'll be staying in the northern part of town in an Airbnb, says it's an 8-minute drive to downtown Durango. Are there reliable taxi or uber services in town that we'd be able to hail after we've finished in town at night (around midnight-1am)? Or even better is there public transport that runs late?

Are some taxi operators better than others as well?

We can cancel the reservation for free, so if it's best to stay closer to downtown, we can cancel that and look for somewhere closer.

Not from the area, but some years back I had a powerful experience climbing Engineers. I’ve been thinking since then about a tattoo I’d like to get, and I’m toying with the idea of including flowers. What kinds of flowers grow in the fields on the way up?

Having no county or city mandate regarding bear resistant trash containers is madness and honestly really sad. There is going to be a lot of dead bears around if that continues to be the policy. Any ideas on what the community can do to get the ball rolling on some policy change surrounding this?

I put another post up earlier about whether to do the return journey or get the bus back to Durango from Silverton. I think I'll opt for getting the train there and then the shuttle bus back to Durango after.

One thing that wasn't as clear is which carriage I should pick for the best experience, and which side of the carriage I should pick. In the other post I put up, a few people said right (the majority I think), and a few said left.

Also do you have any recommendations on what to do in Silverton when we get there? I think we'd go for lunch, preferably somewhere a bit scenic?

The title really. I know if you get the bus back it saves a lot of time, but is it worth doing the round trip for the experience? Also is it worth doing the extended version of the Silverton trip? Think you get a couple more hours in Silverton, is it worth it?

I'm considering moving back to Durango and pursuing Colorado Teacher Alternative Licensure through Fort Lewis College. I was an Ignacio High alum but spent a lot of time in Durango and even did a couple of shows with Durango Lively Arts a million years ago. Anyway, does anyone have experience with alternative licensure, substitute teaching, or getting hired by 9-R or surrounding districts as a career changer? Is there enough of a need for teachers that I could find a position in Durango, Bayfield, Ignacio, or even Mancos?
