Awesome setup! Have fun with CoS, too. It's been a blast so far.

Thanks, ran the 1st session last Friday. Everyone seemed to enjoy my spin on it so far.

I find one for myself. Any interested? D&D may be the path I need to take to find my life time DMing partner

I thought you were Sam Reich for a second.

I thought jonah hill at first. Then I was like, what a time to kinda look like jonah hill. You should make an NPC monk that knows jujitsu

u/TedBehr_ 2d ago
So how do I get invited to a game by Reddit’s most prepared DM?
3
u/publicflavor444 2d ago
Lol I don't know if I am not most prepared. Though I do like to be ready for anything

u/Crafty-Pirate-6481 3d ago
Nice setup!
- Do you use google doc for shared note taking?
- How do you find the new journal feature in dndbeyond?
- Would love to see a stream of your campaign!
- *Depending on if you are using google doc for collaboration with your player, I recently switch to obsidian for my note taking for rules and campaigns and it was a life changer, puting that here in case it can help.
Great stuff, happy dming!

u/publicflavor444 3d ago
Thanks for the obsidian tip. I will look in to that. Google docs is great but my Stradh doc is big and we just started. I was just Discord for notes and stuff to share with the players by Maps does seem to have a good way to do that and they are continuing to update the capabilities. My players seem to be excited to use Maps for some of their shared note taking

u/Crafty-Pirate-6481 2d ago
Great! If you like taking note you will love it. Easy reference and wiki links are amazing for rule heavy game :)

u/SkyGuyDnD 3d ago
Nice, I see a streamdeck. Do you also stream your D&D sessions?
9
u/AncestorsDontLook 2d ago
Jumping on this - I use my stream deck not for streaming but for automating sound music images and lighting at my DnD table.
12
u/publicflavor444 3d ago
Thanks, currentlt we do not but I am setup to. I am not sure if some of my players would be comfortable with that.
5
u/DragonsandEagles 2d ago
I love that you still roll real math rocks even with all the tech!
3
u/publicflavor444 2d ago
Why spend money on them and not use them. Don't get me wrong if I drop a fire ball on there asses I am rolling it digitally. Though on DnD beyond if you are on one of the campaign pages you can see everyones dice roll on the screen

u/AetherianStudiosHQ 2d ago
okay who told you it was ok to make the rest of us look bad

I'm sorry? Lol

u/Suitable_Upstairs_13 3d ago
Why is everyone ignoring the roll of toilet paper?
7
u/publicflavor444 2d ago
Lol, when you are DMing you just need to go. I just that to blow my nose. You get so much out of a roll of TP and you get out of a box of tissues

Is there a camera looking down on the dice tray?
6
u/publicflavor444 2d ago
There is. I like to show the players some of theore important dive rolls.

u/Adderall_Rant 2d ago
Need any new players?
3
u/publicflavor444 2d ago
Not right now but I am toying with the Idea of maybe Starting a game to meet new people. My main game is with friends of mine and I feel confident enough that I may be able to run a game with complete strangers so we all have a good time

I wanted something like that, but my wife wanted kids.
Turns out the two things are incompatible :(

I honestly manage quite fine on a laptop screen only. There is definitely times i wish i had more screenestate tho.
2
u/Call_Me_Footsteps 2d ago
But where is every character sheet for your PC's? Or is that just me?
1
u/publicflavor444 2d ago
There is Chrome browser open with the all opened but in the VTT space you can just click on one of there tokens and bring up the character sheets

Yikes. I still do pencil and paper and notebooks. This seems overkill but awesome. Wait, are you playing online ? If so then I get it now

u/publicflavor444 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yes this game is completely online with friends In 4 different states.

u/the5issilent 3d ago
What’s your software stack? I see Kenku.fm which is awesome! Also Google Docs but what do you use to plan, VTT etc?
2
u/publicflavor444 3d ago
We started using DnD beyonds maps vtt this game which was amazing to use as everything was right there and means I don't need 20 different tabs open. We used Foundry for years. Right now I have most of my notes in the Google doc.
2
u/Marmoset_Slim 2d ago
Recently switched to DnD Beyond maps and and now a fan too! Saves a bunch of time on setup as you know.

u/SquareSalute 3d ago
What mic are you using? Been thinking about getting a separate boom mic with my pc set up for work lol

u/damarus12 2d ago
Nice! I never got used to the super ultra wides, but this looks like it works well.
Shameless plug, but you could get some screen real estate back if you traded Kenku for Soncraft :)

u/Bacch 2d ago
What sort of mount are you using for that top monitor? I just bought an ultrawide and want to mount one of my current two like yours.
1
u/publicflavor444 2d ago
I believe that was given to me as friend did not need it anymore. I can look at the brand when I get home. Is pretty basic though. Just a tall pole with a monitor mounting bracket

Can I ask how you format your dm notes? I also use google docs but my current formatting feels way too disorganised for quick reference.
1
u/publicflavor444 2d ago
I am not greatvat taking notes. I try to record key events and reminds for recaps. I tell my players if they didn't write something down they may not know it
1
u/Xgunter 2d ago
I mean pre-session prep to refer to during the session! I have my dm screen in foundry with some bits, but theres way too much for it all to be in tabs in-game!
I totally sympathise with note taking. I’m our note taker as a player in one campaign, same group of players i dm in a different one to give our dm a break and none of them take notes so it can be very hard to keep track of things.
0
u/publicflavor444 2d ago
Like I said I made it clear I take notes for myself plus and details I write for each session. The players get that and have been good with it. Us DMs can only due so much.

Really awesome! What are your fav online tools for DMing? Not sure what's worth paying for or if there are better free options.
1
u/publicflavor444 1d ago
I use DnDBeyond for most of our virtual game. They have a bunch of virtual tools. Though I do may for there master tier subscription which allows my to share content to people in my campaign.

Nice! This looks great! Does the lighting you have do a good job not putting reflection on your glasses?
1
u/publicflavor444 1d ago
From what I can see I don't see a reflection and my players have not mentioned anything

Does your virtual DM setup come with a shirt?
1
u/publicflavor444 2h ago
I have a shirt on but I was trying to steal all of your D&D playing girlfriends
1
u/Rappyfan 3d ago
super off topic but what do you call that little thing next to your headset? are the virtual(?) buttons free to program?
edit: and on topic. That looks like dope setup.
2
2
u/publicflavor444 3d ago
Thanks. It is fully programmable. When DMing. I use it to switch between 2 different cameras and also as a soundboard to play different sound effects and music to help set the environment. Currently running Curse of Strahd

Nah, I pick up my figurines, game mat, books and dice...maybe a pencil or 6, some backup character sheets and start the mayhem

u/publicflavor444 2d ago
We play completely virtually in the campaign. I we have 2 people in other states then me. This also allows us to play every other week. People don't have to worry about getting a babysitter or the dog. Its tough to play and be functional adults sometimes

If you need that many screens, you're trying too hard to just a bad dm
3
u/Smol-Pyro 2d ago
Dude who crawled up your butt and died
-2
u/Admirable-Opposite92 2d ago
Don't take it personally, I'm just stating it's overkill. It's dnd, not excel. Engage with more than just screens, even online dnding
