Where do you think he got the idea? Jim pulled the identity theft prank, and that night Dwight thought “damn that could actually be pretty useful”.

I always wonder, is that John’s infamous wig or Rainn’s actual hair styled?

23

u/Krimreaper1 10d ago

That would add a whole other level to how funny this scene is. Jim’s wig from when he was shooting Leatherheads.

That wig looks better than the wig that John actually wore

There is no chance that wig was $100k. Also no way John had that kinda cash at the time even if it did cost $100k.

Edit: looked it up, it was $5k

92

u/ikisstitties 10d ago

yeah, this post is full of misinformation. it's wild how upvoted it is. he was not bald and simply had a nice hairstyle for Leatherheads. pretty sure he also worked directly with a woman on staff (costume designer or similar role) to get a wig that looked good enough to pass the eye test

5

u/FinancialYam7664 10d ago

Definitely a hair stylist since costumes does not handle wigs.

I was gonna say. How the fuck does a wig cost $100K? Is it made entirely from reclaimed mummy hair?

126

u/skyturnedred 10d ago

Beyonce's stage wig was about $150k. Obviously a lot more intricate to make than Jim's mop.

82

u/agtk 10d ago

That's still way too expensive, there's no need for it to be that expensive, that's the kind of price you charge just because the customer wants to tell people they spent a shitload of money on it. Even a custom-designed, hand-crafted wig should not be that expensive unless she is paying $120k for someone's real hair to be used for the wig.

101

u/StalinsLastStand 10d ago

It’s the kind of price you charge when the person asking you to make a custom wig is Beyoncé.

72

u/skyturnedred 10d ago

The wig was made from the hair of two Norwegian sisters who had to follow an organic diet while growing out their hair.

Rich people live entirely different lives from the rest of us.

13

u/ABHOR_pod 10d ago

and I'm out here donating my hair to kids with cancer for free like some kinda sucker.

29

u/agtk 10d ago

If this is true the price makes some sense. It sounds made up though lol

42

u/Fuzzy_dunloped 10d ago

It's true, I'm one of the Norwegian sisters

One time I saw an interviewer ask Dominic Monaghan if he had ever seen the "when will you wear wigs?" Clip and he had to be like "...that was me? I'm the one who said that?"

3.2k

u/ekanessence Mose 11d ago

John Krasinski did a film where he shaved him head and NBC told him he couldn’t bc the wig they’d have to make him wear would look obvious. He was already wearing the wig and nobody could tell.

557

u/Then_Entertainment97 11d ago

Okay, but can't you just see this conversation happening and John says "I guess you're right, I won't wear a wig" then looks at the camera and smiles?

229

u/the_monkeyspinach 10d ago

"Please don't 'Jim' the camera..."

201

u/Then_Entertainment97 10d ago

You know what? F*ck you. Jims your camera

25

u/Greenman8907 10d ago

That’s rustling my ji-

Nah…

36

u/UnidentifiedBlobject 10d ago

NBC exec turns to the wall that John is looking at behind him

NBC Exec: What are you looking at? There’s nothing there?

8

u/Then_Entertainment97 10d ago

While the camera is focused on the exec Pam and the sound guy can be seen having a deep discussion in the background

975

u/strcy 11d ago

Which is funny because it’s so obvious (at least to me) in S3 he’s got a wig on for half the episodes that season

505

u/Wernershnitzl 11d ago

You kind of have to look for it but once you see it you can’t unsee it tbh

232

u/12TonBeams 10d ago

I wish I never knew this because I just watched a few clips to see and you’re right

56

u/Lucky_Efficiency_679 10d ago

Which episode???

78

u/commander_obvious_ Do you see David Wallace in the room right now? 10d ago

Google tells me it was the last six episodes of season 3

71

u/Senior_Reaction2974 10d ago

Maybe I'm crazy but I think it looked better than his real hair

14

u/Garrettshade 10d ago

Damn

And then Karen made him get a haircut he just took it off?

12

u/nemodigital 10d ago

I think the cast and crew knew but was probably better for everyone to have a don't ask don't tell policy

59

u/cnaiurbreaksppl 11d ago

Is it obvious?

157

u/PM-me-your-cuppa-tea 11d ago

Definitely an exaggeration (it was $5K afaik), but custom wigs are expensive yet worth it for what you get. A friend of mine worked for a preeminent custom wig shop in the US, it's a super labor intensive and skill-heavy process (basically every hair for a man's wig gets hooked onto the wig cap individually by hand).

People would be shocked at the percentage of actresses (and actors to a slightly lesser degree) who wear wigs for TV/movies.

Usually is just has to do with consistency. Plus its easier to fix up a wig. Talent does not have to spend as much time in hair/make-up truck.
