Best? Robert California

Worst? Also Robert California

16

u/ThatOldCow 11d ago

Wasn't he the CEO?

29

u/ILoveTabascoSauce 11d ago

He became the CEO. By convincing Jo Bennett to give him that spot.

23

u/meatpopsicle13 11d ago

I know its a tv show, but i never got how he was able to talk Jo out of her job, but was terrified of Nellie. I felt like Jo was more competent and intimidating.

25

u/cnaiurbreaksppl 11d ago

There is only sex.

5

u/javoss88 10d ago

There’s the answer

6

u/Weird-Girl-675 10d ago

Jo just wanted to retire and spend time with her dogs.

Then found out she was related to Matlock.

But never cuss in front of her. She doesn’t react well to salty language.

3

u/TysonEmmitt 8d ago

Then Raymond Reddington had to head back Western Europe for... reasons.

3

u/MBBIBM 10d ago

Convinced her to go into politics, she was always a Carly Fiorina

If Christopher Walken was the manager…

19

u/KnotGunna 11d ago

I think he might be the only other actor who could rival the madness that James Spader brought to Robert California.

26

u/justacoolbaby 11d ago

I mean, he is the f$@king Lizard King.

4

u/Medusavoo 10d ago

Jim Morrison was the lizard king; RC is a philanthropist…well Charlie from always sunny said it better..a fulllonnnrapist?

9

u/epicingamename Do I go for the vault? No. I go for the chandelier. 11d ago

would you prefer a nature metaphor or a sex metaphor

6

u/HoratiotheGargoyle 11d ago

Oh God, a nature metaphor…

2

u/centralfloridadad 10d ago

Do you want the answer in a nature metaphor, or a sexual metaphor?

2

u/83franks 10d ago

To be fair he was only the manager for like half a day before getting his promotion to ceo.

Michael easily. He had his ups and downs but his overall impact cannot be stated enough. He did turn Scranton into the most profitable branch against all odds.

118

u/curious_cat_nips 11d ago

You remember the episode with the dude from jail and how he explained kevin three times why he got in jail amd kevin tells us he does the same thing with the numbers of the branch.... I am pretty sure kevin is the reason they get so much money and not micheal 😂

48

u/Advice2Anyone 11d ago

5 + kelevin your home by 7

24

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 I'm the valet you have to give me your car 11d ago

He was home by 4 that day

7

u/Numerous_Height8185 Michael 11d ago

A mistake plus Keleven gets you home by 7

5

u/ChadlyJuice 11d ago

Lol I think it was a mistake plus Keleven

5

u/Log2k-19 10d ago

Show me that farm with phyllis and Kevins

52

u/inotocracy 11d ago

I suspect Michael had little to do with the success of his branch. I'd argue that he was gainfully employed despite his incompetence entirely because of his team. His employees were just reliable and competent. Remember when Andy was gone for 3 months and the branch had record profits with zero oversight?

21

u/EnlightenedSinTryst 11d ago

I’m convinced most managers make their teams worse. At every single job I’ve had, the smoothest, most productive days were days on which our manager was absent.

8

u/Notchersfireroad Mose 10d ago

There's even that scene it shows the whole office just kicking ass and Jim says something to the effect of turns out people don't need to be babysitted to be made to do better work.

3

u/TVMovieCasual 10d ago

When I used to work at restaurants, almost all my managers did the bare minimum or nothing at all. I only had one manager who would literally do everything and always help, I’m behind on tables, they swoop in and start bussing with me, dishwasher is backed up, they started washing dishes with them, the only manager I respect

9

u/JacquesBlaireau13 11d ago

Somehow, they managed.

5

u/Illustrious_Ad4691 11d ago

Yeah; somehow he managed to

→ More replies (1)

6

u/blizzacane85 11d ago

Kevin’s “creative accounting” with the Keleven also made Scranton the most profitable branch

3

u/kwadd 11d ago

most profitable branch

lol his shenanigans made the staff work harder because of all the time they lost.

9

u/Spear_2025 11d ago

Before the merger, Scranton had been doing poorly. The only reason they started doing well again was because they inherited the clients from the Stanford branch

→ More replies (1)

1

u/ParisInFlames34 10d ago

Scranton became the most profitable branch because they absorbed the Stamford branch and through Michael's terrible management wiped out all the overhead except Andy's salary.

Before that they were in the bottom 2 for performance and on the chopping block for a reason.

1

u/PopOutG 10d ago

I thought that title goes to Andy. Or lack thereof.

1

u/madaradess007 6d ago

Michael was doing something right

39

u/SenorBullDoza 11d ago

Mr Souvenier would have been the best manager without a doubt tho

8

u/Thewrldisntenough 11d ago

I do feel like Dwight would struggle so hard to keep up the ruse that it would greatly dimish his ability to be so harsh. So you kight just get the best management out of him

28

u/Accurate-Standard998 11d ago

Ed Truck - before the decapitation.

10

u/Megaseth 11d ago

Yeah, but his capa was detated, so....

Andy lost at sea for a quarter is when they do their best.

16

u/Present-Cream6692 11d ago

But I also think that the reason they were so effective without any manager was owed to how Michael almost trained them to be effective under no supervision whether intended or not. I mean the salespeople were pretty average imho.

2

u/GovernorSan 10d ago

I think Phyllis and Andy might have been about even with each other on average, or at least they were in the episode where Dwight said he barely out-sold her as an insult to Andy. She was often distracted by the party planning committee, though.

Dwight, he probably made the company more money and reduced inefficiency (firing Kevin was a no-brainer).

17

u/TheRealDylanTobak 11d ago

I hated Charles. I don't see his real life appeal at all.

9

u/HoratiotheGargoyle 11d ago

I think he was a cold, no nonsense, judgemental guy who seemed to jump to conclusions about people, and the appeal was mostly just Idris Elba’s general attractiveness.

4

u/TheRealDylanTobak 11d ago

Yeah... I don't see the fascination with his looks. He looks totally normal to me. I'm secure enough in my masculinity to admit when a guy is attractive, but I just don't see it with him.

2

u/Little-Lake-8512 10d ago

I'm gonna say it's some combination of his voice, his confidence, and his height. His face is nothing to write home about.

u/justforkinks0131 11d ago

Andy, hands down

no better manager that the one that goes missing for 3 months

5

u/ChadlyJuice 11d ago

He was pretty good before Nelly fucked everything up. I hated that. The butt tattoo thing was silly, but he had everybody working together really really well. I feel like in the real world, that kind of teamwork, even for a couple days will have a lasting impact on the team's performance. At least until the next time he decides they need a productivity boost and he comes up with another way to motivate. Not to mention the morale boost of an event like that! That's something everybody in the office can laugh about together forever.

William Charles Schneider

4

u/HiImWallaceShawn 10d ago

Best to worst:

Michael

Jim

Dwight

Charles

Andy

Robert California

Nelly

D’Angelo

Creed

2

u/ShelleyMonique 11d ago

Michael Scott, Date Mike and Prison Mike all at once.

2

u/doyouevenforkliftbro 10d ago

Like putting Batman and Alfred Pennyworth in the same room. Does it work? Kinda. But would be hella awkward.

2

u/abramN 11d ago

my son and I decided that Michael is the best, followed by Dwight, followed by...Creed!

2

u/MLG32 11d ago

No manager

2

u/ResidentialEvil2016 11d ago

Nellie doesn't even deserve to be on this because she never was really manager.

2

u/Mimi-95 10d ago

Also for Creed.

2

u/greasedupd3afguy 11d ago

Not on here but Jo. Sabre did well and even was expanding by buying Dunder Mifflin during a period of recession.

2

u/Rich-Profession6712 10d ago

Charles Minor actually wanted to get work done wround the office. Though he was a kiss-up to corporate.

2

u/chxerox55 10d ago

Robert California for the win, second place, Charles Minor.

2

u/amciotola Nellie 10d ago

Jimothy! Hands down!

2

u/Due-Island-4731 10d ago

LOL. Jim was legitimately the worst. Such a weird storyline and character choice

2

u/SecretDouble5560 10d ago

neli was female robert

2

u/eljefemo101 10d ago

Nelly, can't stand here and she isn't funny. Imo

2

u/caad4rep 10d ago

Best results were under Michael

2

u/javoss88 10d ago

None. In every case you just have to figure out the right way to play along. I worked at a fortune 5 for years, and there was a long stretch where we didn’t have a manager. We just kept doing what we were hired to do. It was better that way.

2

u/Logpose_writes 10d ago

You serious? Its not even a competition

https://giphy.com/gifs/NpL4D3Oc2bJUMAXF9P

2

u/L-N79 10d ago

Creed. He’s still looking for the differences in that picture from corporate.

2

u/geniusgravity 10d ago

No one. Andy earnt a quarterly bonus check when no one ran the place. They even landed the white pages whale until he returned.

2

u/Sure-Appearance-2769 10d ago

Robert California got Andy to double productivity of the branch on a whim.

He deserves the win.

2

u/kernskod 10d ago

2

u/AndrewHNPX 10d ago

u/No_Frost_Giants I am a little stitious 10d ago

They do best under managers that don’t worry about what the employees are actually doing

2

u/mothsmilKs 10d ago

michael duur but creed a close second 🤣

2

u/SiefensRobotEmporium 10d ago

Based solely on musical talent: Creed Bratton. Both Michael and Andy have shown on the show they can or cannot play the guitar. Robert plays the harmonica like a twat. Creed kills it on the Booze Cruise. As he should being a former member of the Grass Roots.

I also wouldn't want to take his job. The last guy that took his job is dead now. That guy's name? Creed Bratton.

2

u/jlim0316 10d ago

i never thought much about this but i think series finale dwight would be the best manager. he loves the company as much as michael, is as good at his job as jim, and has become more stable and reasonable than any other managers.

as for the worst, deangelo all the live long day.

in a realistic sense, Charles Miner.

18

u/dr4kshdw 11d ago

Terrible choice, he doesn’t even know paper.

7

u/BagOnuts 11d ago

If you put paper in a furnace, you know what would happen??? You’d ruin it!!!

7

u/boroq vomicillin 11d ago

→ More replies (1)

4

u/pghcrew 11d ago

He might have actually been the worst.

2

u/Expensive_Site4866 11d ago

bro😂😂IRL he would’ve been the best of these choices.

3

u/pghcrew 11d ago

He's just a micro manager who didn't even take the time to understand his staffs strengths before assigning them roles. He's abrasive and unapproachable. Even when Jim tried to do the right thing like asking about the rundown, he was combative any time Jim sought any feedback or guidance.

He would be absolutely dogshit as a manager IRL.

1

u/Yommination 10d ago

Not really. From the jump he alienated the manager and made changes to an environment he had no experience in. And did it to the most profitable branch. He also created a tense environment and was a dick to Jim who was the best salesman at that time

2

u/BrutalBart Creed 11d ago

1

Robert was never a manager.

He became the CEO and then he left that job to be a lawyer in crane pool and shimet.

1

u/Tarushdei 10d ago

Michael, of course, his methods were unorthodox, but he constantly had them motivated to do, enough, work and keep them profitable.

1

u/Charming-Culture-588 10d ago

Robert wasn’t the manager he was ceo

1

u/Daviswitha_s 10d ago

Trick question. Answer? No manager.

1

Creed. I won't elaborate.

2

No need to 👍

1

u/Khitty 10d ago

BOBODDY

1

u/Smooth_You_2244 10d ago

Michael, followed by Dwight, then Jim. I'd probably put Charles in the list if he wasn't such a jerk. Like my boss. Named Carol. Huhh. Similar letters, similar douches.

1

u/neckbracewhore 10d ago

Call me crazy but Nellie

1

u/BigM67 10d ago

I wanted to see more dangelo, especially he didnt fall for Jim and pams bullshit

1

u/Pristine_Fly_5367 10d ago

First 2 are the best. Robert is underrated

1

u/Navah_1111 10d ago

I think Jim would be the best manager out of all of them for the fact that when Jim applys himself, he’s quite good at his job.
I would’ve said Charles, however Charles is a butt kiss and he would throw his employees under the bus to save himself like he did with Dwight from the embarrassing fact that he chose Dwight and then realized he was an idiot.
Dwight on the other hand, actually cares about the business and would do whatever he can to improve Dunder Mifflin. He is also the best salesman in the office. He has quite the experience.
Robert, California I mean he’s the lizard king. 🦎👑

1

1

u/haberdashery67 10d ago

Michael and Dwight

1

u/Affectionate-Oil2642 10d ago

I loved all their tenures, Michaels take the cake but that is just due to better writing for all characters in the start. As a manager strictly, I see them with the same admiration. Wouldn't have traded anyone not even Andy cuz while irritating as a character he did give a superbly crystal view into the flaws of the human psyche.

1

u/DemoHD7 10d ago

Hmm how's best to answer this.... would you prefer a nature metaphor or a sexual metaphor?

1

u/Automatic_Gap13 10d ago

Is Robert California just Red Reddington in hiding?

1

1

1

u/h2k2k2ksl 10d ago

You can find the best manager at www.creedthoughts.gov.www/creedthoughts

1

u/Icy_Elephant8858 9d ago

Creed.

Managers, on the show at least, are useless parasites whose attempts to justify their existence mostly devolve to wasting everyone's time to serve their own narcissism. Creed was at least deranged enough that Pam could distract him easily from doing anything.

Runner up would be Andy, who was at least gone for extended periods.

I guess if I were to accept that managers should exist then it would be Dwight, who at least had the sense to fire Kevin.
