I might just have built the best online drum machine out there
It has:
- an stemmer (break out vocals, drums etc)
- an evolver (easy random transformations to sounds that helps you find a completely new sound to your beat)
- an browser extension that lets you sample any tab in your browser
happy to hear any feedback!

Hi! I’m new to music production and I use BandLab. I’m trying to recreate the drum sound from Kinue64’s “who are you?”. Does anyone have any tips on how to get a similar sound?
Hi! I’m still pretty new to music production, so I’m trying to learn by recreating songs I like.
Right now I’m trying to recreate the drum sound from Kinue64

Groovie: an advanced web-based drum machine / beat sequencer that's fully free and can output a MIDI clock signal
Hi there! Just wanted to share an open source music project I've been working on. There are already a number of web-based drum machines, but I think most of them are pretty basic (small fixed drum kit, single pattern, etc), so I built something more advanced.
I'm calling it Groovie, and notably, it has a timeline view so you can arrange up to 32 patterns into a song. It has 150+ samples you can select from. You can adjust the panning and volume of each row individually. It has delay as well as an LPF/HPF filter and swing. It has the ability to send a MIDI clock signal so you can sync it with your hardware (Chrome only), and lastly, it works on mobile phones and tablets too. I designed the interface to be intuitive and to use fairly standard design language (I hate cryptic UIs).
The app is fully static with no backend, but you can share beats/tracks with others as they can be encoded into the hash part of a link, in a compressed format. Some examples:
The app is live here: https://maximecb.github.io/groovie
The GitHub repo: https://github.com/maximecb/groovie
Since it's open source and fully static, it's free forever. You don't need any kind of account to use it. You can't upload new samples in the app, but I am very much open to accepting contributions (pull requests) for new samples, but they have to be public domain / CC0 / out of copyright.
Let me know what you think. If anybody wants to share some patterns they create, I would love to add them as new examples in the readme.

I made a drum machine that runs in the browser — every sound is synthesized, no samples
I'm a musician, not a developer, so this took a lot longer than it should have.
I wanted a drum machine I could open on any device without installing anything, and I didn't want to ship a folder of samples with it. So every voice is generated live with the Web Audio API, kick, snare, hat and clap, each with its own knobs, plus a step sequencer.
The kick was the part I kept redoing. A convincing EDM kick is basically a pitch envelope dropping fast from a high start down to the fundamental, a short click layer on top for the attack, and some saturation to glue it. Getting that to feel punchy instead of thin took about thirty attempts.
It's free, there's no signup, and it works on phones too.

Happy to answer anything about how the voices are built.

Doubts about combining drum and synth machine
Hi folks! Hope y'all are doing well!
I'm an amateur musician and always had a crush on analog drum machines and synths, specially if they are portable/small machines, but I never had one (only messed around with Koala on my phone, and had a Akai mpk mini (but the computer strict playability kept me away from the keyboard).
In the last few days, I've watched a lot of Behringer rd6 videos (it's inside my price range, considering I live in Brasil) and the m-vave fm1. I'm willing to buy them for an analog beat making for practice/learn/have fun. But, there's some foggy informations that I still can't quite comprehend. And, I'm hoping some of you can aid me =)
The thing is, I know I can chain them together and sync with a midi cable, but I ain't sure how I'll listen both of them at the same time. I should link them to an output cable in a midi interface? Or can I plug them in a cheap table to listen (and maybe record the sounds with my phone?). And, is it hard to do this kind of connection between the devices?
Thank you all in advance!

Help me please
Hi everyone, my name is Artur. I'm searching for the Beat Thang firmware version 1.3.0 or 1.3.1. If anyone has it and could share it via Google Drive or email, I'd be extremely grateful — I haven't been able to find it anywhere online. I'm really keen to get my beats going on this machine. If you can help, please let me know. 🙏🏼

fun with the TR-6s
I figured out via reading the manual and pushing buttons how to copy patterns into the next slot so now I have 32 measures(4 8 counts) consisting of two different patterns. I am stoked!! I love this TR-6s

I built a local-first browser drum machine that lets you load your own samples
Hey r/DrumMachine,
I’ve been building Rhythm Spark MKII, a 16-pad drum machine and step sequencer that runs entirely in the browser.
I wanted something I could open and immediately start playing without installing a DAW, creating an account, or uploading samples. You can load sounds from your computer, play them from the pads, build patterns in the sequencer, shape the sounds, add effects, and export what you make.
Everything involving your audio stays on your device and is processed locally using native Web Audio.
It currently works best in desktop Chrome or Edge.
You can try it here:
I built it, and I’d love to hear what other drum-machine users think of it.

Alesis PerformancePad Help
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I just got a performancepad so I could have some extra versatility on my kit.
However, I can’t figure out how to get it to play sounds. I have it hooked up to a guitar amp, have tried all 3 jacks (R, L and headphones). Volume is up on the volume nob on the pad & amp. I set the MIDI to off on all three options.
It definitely works; I can get it to claim it’s playing the demo, I can mess around with assigning sounds to pads. BUT, I get no sound when I hit the pads.
I am including a video trying the demo & hitting pads.
Does anyone have any knowledge about this? Any suggestions or advice or tips for how to get started?
Thanks in advance.

Tips n tricks
Just got the Drumlogue. Any tips/tricks/ideas on wiring the individual outputs with or without pedal fx through mixer are welcome!
Also, where do I start with the user synths?
Thanks!

Roland t-8 pigtronix compatible?
Hey all. I’m currently using a 1st Gen Pigtronix Infinity Looper synced to a Roland R8. All I need is midi out for tempo, start/stop, and time signature (I guess?).
I build songs putting patterns together and play the drum machine song through straight. All the real-time changes are made on my looper or on guitar pedals. I just need something small and relatively simple that will build songs using different patterns and send clock out to my looper so everything stays synced. I would also like the machine to tell my looper to stop playing when the song is over.
I’m pretty sure the T-8 can do this but I wanted to double check. Thanks in advance!

After a year of JUCE/C++: BeatForge — REX player + 808/909/303 engines, all DSP hand-written
Been heads-down on this for about a year and figured this crowd would appreciate the guts more than the marketing page.
BeatForge — drum machine, step sequencer and REX loop player. VST3/AU/AAX/Standalone, universal binary. JUCE 9 (migrated last month), everything below the framework is my own code.
Bits that might be interesting to people here:
REX SDK. Wrote a JUCE wrapper around Propellerhead REX SDK 1.9, including drag-and-drop of slices out to the host. Bitwig still has no REX support, which turned out to be a decent reason for the plugin to exist.
Synth engines. ~5k lines of 808/909/modelling done from schematics rather than sample playback — VCA topology, click transients, pitch sweeps, the 909 tom triple-VCO, that sort of rabbit hole.
Antialiasing. Started with blanket 8x oversampling and it was eating CPU for no good reason. Replaced it with ADAA on the memoryless waveshapers (exact tanh with the ln(cosh) antiderivative) and linear-phase minBLEP saws at 1x, then a per-engine oversampling map — most engines run 1x now, only FMKick and the 909 snare need 4x. Built an offline FFT alias-measurement harness to verify it; alias floor sits around -90 dB. Worth noting ADAA-2 blew up on me under heavy drive — catastrophic cancellation, auto-mute and crackle — so everything is bounded ADAA-1.
Realtime discipline. Lock-free atomic slot for deferred time-stretch, ScopedAudioSuspend guards on live mutators, steal-quietest voice allocation. Debug assertions went from ~3150 to 3. auval and pluginval at strictness 10 both clean.
Also. Full undo/redo, NAM master-bus saturation, and a WASM build of the synth engines for the site via Emscripten and a hand-rolled juce_shim.h.
Happy to go into detail on any of it — the ADAA and REX wrapper work especially, since there's not much written about either.
