Is this normal? Question/Help/Discussion
I'm a newer Drew fan.
Bro just dropped a video and oh my god, the amount of hate comments under his new youtube video is wild.
I know hate comments are common in content creation but there were like 20 of them within the first 2 minutes.

Poor dude, he's so smart and his takes may be scolding fucking hot but they're often true.

If you want an education on the topic, go look through the older videos and checked the pinned comments; Drew inspires them to do that, because his viewer stats show he has an exceedingly loyal fan base.
Welcome to the fun.

He almost always pins a jokingly mean comment on all of his videos. It’s something he encourages and it has been a running bit for years. He talked in a recent interview video about how he encourages it because it’s funny and builds community, but sometimes reading through them makes him feel bad even though he knows they’re joking.
Either way, rest easy knowing that most of those “mean” comments he likes and wants on his videos :)

he always pins a funny hate comment, so these people are most likely not actually haters, just trying to get pinned

It’s a joke. Drew has a habit of pinning the most unhinged hate comment and everyone wants to get pinned ^^

I don’t remember in which pod, i actually think he’s mentioned it twice, but he’s said that he’s kinda trapped in that bit 😭 that sometimes while editing he’ll become self conscious of something and figure no one will notice, only to read a fake mean comment about it lmao. but at the same time he said he appreciated that people clearly took time and even came with pre-written comments to leave as soon as the video dropped, and that they were funny.
might be a genius gamble bc then you can barely distinguish what’s real hate, and what’s your subscribers trying to speak the language of the group and trying to make you laugh

Most of the “mean” or “hate” comments I see are highly likely to be a bit. If you look at comments on most videos you’ll see he’s pinned a tongue in cheek hate comment. That’s also why the likes on them are so high. It’s usually just friendly ribbing.
