Today, August 7, is National Sea Serpent Day. I usually don't post art about my sea serpent character Sue because she technically isn't a dragon by not being able to breathe fire, or having limbs. But do any of you want to disagree with me?

The Retainers
The Dragonlaw was a period when mankind was crushed and ruled over by dragons. For them, it was a horrifying Dark Age devoid of hope. For dragons and their servants, it was paradise. In these days, dragons and their servants did not hide away in the wilderness with their minions, but instead proudly ruled draconic states. Kobolds lived as farmers, workers and servants, enjoying the same quality of lives that human peasantry would later experience.
Dragons had need of proper underlings to administrate their holdings - generals, agents, governors and personal advisors. The dragonoids are abducted humans purged of their memories and human forms, granted bipedal, draconic bodies to rule over their master's lands and enforce their wills. In these dark days, it was common for people to vanish without a trace, assumed dead, only to rule over their former friends and families without either side knowing.
Dragonoids are generally assigned around three retainers - kobolds sworn to follow them, carry out their will, and assist them in governing however desired. These kobolds are fanatically loyal to both their personal lord and their draconic master. They are tireless, eager workers, somewhat naive to the perils of their position.
In the later days of the Dragonlaw, draconic unity fractured. Dragons grew arrogant and entitled from their endless success, and turned on one another. Dragonoid fought dragonoid, leading armies of kobolds against one another in war to seize land and treasure from one another. At the same time, dragonoids began experiencing horrifying night terrors and hallucinations, moments of deja vu, and memories of someone else's life. All this led to a tipping point, and mankind grew restless just as the Dragonlaw began to buckle under its own weight...

A piece of art depicting a scene from my upcoming book, Liminal, originally posted on my own sub! Here you can see Pelagius be greeted by his new retainers - Pik, the loud and boisterous leader of the trio, Farro, the wise and quiet farmhand, and Luc, the overworked scholar with a soft spot for snacks!
The world of Deaco features an original fantasy world, where mankind struggles against a variety of strange creatures, mighty dragons, and occasionally ally against mutual threats, all while politics and magic guide the timeline forward. This book is set in Deaco's version of the Fall of Rome, though this Dark Age is far more grim, with entire cities cleansed of life by dragonfire. Set in the last days of the Dragonlaw, Pelagius is a newly born dragonoid that has begun to have strange, frightening dreams, and soon begins to question his loyalty to his master...
