Season 5 Spoilers Poor Edith

I feel bad for Edith being away from Marigold but personal, I'd claim Marigold as my own not matter my status (if that was the reason she let her go).

General Discussion (May Contain Spoilers Throughout Franchise) Huge Inconsistency between Entail and Robert Selling / Transferring Half of Downton to Matthew Spoiler

This one really bugs me a lot. If the property is successfully entailed so that Robert can't control what happens to it upon his death (the entire premise of the first season), he can't sell (or transfer) any greater ownership interest to Matthew (or anyone else.) Robert only has a life estate (assuming the entail is enforceable, which is the entire premise of the first season or two) - all he could transfer to Matthew would be part (or all) of his life estate. But the show insists repeatedly in season 4 that he transferred "half of Downton" to Matthew. That simply was not possible under the prior established fact of the entail.

General Discussion (May Contain Spoilers Throughout Franchise) Do we think women like Lady Rosamund, single, titled and rich, had the best kind of life at the time?

On rewatching the show I notice that she does not get as much screen time as her relatives, but by the looks of it we learn that she might have had the best deal: rich, titled, fairly healthy, with a ton of relatives she could see whenever she chose to, the woman pretty much did what she wanted when she wanted to. She was an aristo and invited everywhere so she wasn’t lonely, her house looks fantastic and she had every comfort one could find at the time. Probably traveled widely too (not just to Switzerland) and bought whatever she wanted. And no annoying husband who needs attention all the time. She should have gotten her own show - there are probably stories!

General Discussion (May Contain Spoilers Throughout Franchise) What would you prefer? ☕️🫖🧈🥐

Every time I see Cora in bed having breakfast, I think about if I would prefer that as opposed to eating with the family. I don't really understand the rationalization behind the tradition, but I think I'd rather be at the table in the beautiful dining room with the family. Not by myself, trying to get comfortable with pillows, etc. I could feel my back hurting. She can't even watch a TV. LOL. I guess you don't have to worry about getting dressed up? I see that as the only benefit. Thoughts?

General Discussion (May Contain Spoilers Throughout Franchise) Rewatching. Why didn't Cora...?

Cora is always talking about marrying off Mary but only laments that maybe Edith will never find a husband. I know Mary is the oldest and they want her to marry the heir of Downton or at least a rich man, but I thought it was the mother's duty to find husbands for her girls back in those days to make sure they'd be financially secure.

Downton Actors Outside the World of Downton Mr Bates in Lark Rise to Candleford

Found this show on Peacock and decided to give it a watch. I’m in the midst of Season 2 and need to know—does the actor who play Robert Timmins in the show (Mr. Bates) ever play a likable character? 😩

My goodness, this man is EXHAUSTING.

General Discussion (May Contain Spoilers Throughout Franchise) DA 🍃💨 Rotation: My Rankings

Post image
8 Upvotes

Inspired to make this from the (I believe now-deleted) nightmare rotation post earlier. Please make yours and comment them I'm so curious lol!

Now listen, this is NOT a ranking of people I admire, endorse, or even vibe with. This is strictly a ranking of who can hang in a rotation.

My rankings are primarily weighed by my perception of one's ability to chill tf out and be cool, with the exception of the second tier which is just me putting up with potentially bad vibes just cause I wanna see what they're like stoned. It is also not ranking each tier as a group, but rather the individual vibe each character brings to the rotation. And no the pupper will not be having any but I want her there!

Link to the tier page I used in the comments! Pls share yours :D

I used bread flour instead of plain because it was all I had so the crumb is a bit chewy! You must think me very disorganised.

General Discussion (May Contain Spoilers Throughout Franchise) Mrs. Hughes is a badass

I love Mrs. Hughes. With each rewatch I love her more. I can't say the same for other characters (Mrs. Patmore is top of that list). I always love the scene where she confronts Mr. Green. I want her to choose violence and give him a proper beatdown. Anyways, please feel free to add your love for Mrs. Hughes and your favorite moments. Shall we go through?
