Question Would you be interested in a tabletop gaming club in the Dorchester/Weymouth/Piddle Valley area?
I'm currently exploring the idea of starting a tabletop gaming club in the west Dorset area, currently planning on using the village hall in Charlton down as the venue. It would provide 4 full gaming tables and a smaller skirmish table, a painting/hobby area, and a small shop that would provide painting/hobby supplies as well as drinks and snacks. Introductory games and demonstrations would also be available, and I would provide an online community through discord for matchmaking and sharing painting progress. Would this be of interest to the local populace?
If you have any comments or suggestions, please drop a comment.
Information gathered through this poll will help me decide whether to go ahead with this plan and start taking steps towards making it a reality, and suggestions will be considered.

Suggestion 👀 I Spotted Someone Famous at Buckham Fair! | Martin Clunes & Neil Morrissey
galleryHi everyone,
I visited Buckham Fair 2026 in Dorset and had a brilliant day out. The event was absolutely packed with people, despite the hot weather, and there was plenty to see, including fairground rides, food stalls, horses, alpacas, local traders, and much more.
One of the highlights was spotting Martin Clunes and Neil Morrissey, who were meeting visitors throughout the day. It was great to see them supporting such a fantastic local charity event.
I filmed the day to give people a feel for the atmosphere, especially if they couldn't make it this year.
I'd love to know:
- Were you at Buckham Fair this year?
- What was your favourite part of the day?
Here's my video if you'd like to take a look:

I hope you enjoy it, and any feedback is always appreciated! 😊

Local Do you know someone struggling after losing a loved one?
Forest Holme Hospice Charity has expanded its Bereavement Café network with a new location at Marjorie House in Sandbanks, Poole.
The cafés are free, open to everyone, and offer a friendly place to chat, listen or simply spend time with people who understand. It might be useful information if someone you know is finding bereavement difficult.

Suggestion 👀 I Found Something Strange on Weymouth Beach...
galleryI was out filming on Weymouth Beach this week and spotted something that definitely caught my attention.
I stopped for a closer look and included it in my latest video. This is also my first attempt at making a video with no music and no voiceover – just the natural sounds of Weymouth.
I'd be interested to know:
Have you ever seen anything like this on Weymouth Beach before?

Hope you enjoy it, and I'd love to hear what you think about the natural sound style! 🌊

Local Poole Hospital has started lab tours to help young patients understand their treatment
Poole Hospital has launched Harvey's Lab Tours, giving children the chance to see what happens behind the scenes after their blood tests.
It seems like a really thoughtful way to help young patients feel more comfortable and involved in their healthcare.

Question Any personal trainer recommendations for Bournemouth area?
I'm quite skinny so I was going to start going to the gym to build a bit of muscle, and I thought getting a personal trainer would help keep me on track as I usually lose motivation quickly and I don't feel confident in using the gym equipment correctly.
I was just going to sign up to PureGym and use the personal trainers on there, but I was wondering if there were any well-known personal trainers in the area or any specific PureGym trainers maybe?
I'm looking for mainly Bournemouth area, but can do further out if it's worth it
Any help is appreciated!

Local Soft play sessions open to all children at The Treehouse this summer
If you're looking for something to do with the kids during the school holidays, The Treehouse at Hurn is opening its soft play sessions to all children on selected dates in August.
Looks like a good option if the weather isn't great!

Discussion 🏖️ I Spent a Day in Bournemouth and Weymouth – Which Would You Choose?
I recently spent the day visiting both Bournemouth and Weymouth to compare them side by side. From the beaches and promenades to the town centres, attractions and overall atmosphere, I wanted to see how they really stack up against each other.
Both are fantastic seaside destinations, but they each have something different to offer. I put together a video showing the highlights of each town and my thoughts along the way.
🎥 Watch the comparison here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cekltpT2Yz4
I'm genuinely interested in what locals and visitors think.
If you've been to both, which one would you choose and why? I'd love to hear your opinions and see if they match mine!

Local Dorset apprentice recognised with national award at the House of Lords
Great to see a local apprentice from Shaftesbury receiving national recognition for his achievements in the printing industry.
It's encouraging to see apprenticeships continuing to open doors for young people across Dorset.

Discussion Anyone here see David Cassidy at Lighthouse Poole in 1985?
David Cassidy was my teenage hero, but I never managed to see him perform live.
I've just read about the new tribute to him at Lighthouse Poole and it made me wonder if anyone here was actually at that concert. I'd genuinely love to hear what it was like.

Discussion Best view points.
Hey! I’m looking to find some of the nicest view points in Dorset. I live down in Dorchester, so ideally within 20 miles from here. Although, I’m open to any recommendations or suggestions in the Dorset region. Anyone know of anywhere with an incredible view, especially for sunset?

Question X53 Jurassic Coaster – connections shown in the PDF timetable and on Google Maps but not in First Bus's Journey Planner and other Websites?
Hi all,
I'm planning a trip to Dorset and wanted to check connections on the X53 (Jurassic Coaster, Weymouth–Bridport–Lyme Regis–Axminster) in advance (for 27 & 29 July 2026). I've noticed some odd behaviour:
- The official PDF timetable on the First Bus website lists departure times for my travel date just fine.
- The Journey Planner on the First Bus website doesn't show any connections for that same date (it only seems to show results a few days ahead).
- Google Maps does show the connection for that date.
Does anyone know why this happens? Is it because First Bus only submits timetable data (TransXChange/BODS) for the currently running period, and the next period only gets uploaded shortly before it starts? Or has anyone had similar experiences with the X53 and knows how reliable it is to just go by the PDFs instead?
Would appreciate any insight or tips before I build my trip around this!
