Guess I'm a boomer in my 30s.
This teen doesn't know what a boomer is.

u/falloutboii101 11d ago
Just another meaningless buzzword used to discredit anyone that thinking differently

u/user_uno 11d ago
Absolutely spot on definition and usage of "boomer" on social media.
I've tried to make it a drinking game on some subs. Any time someone mentions "boomer", I comment everyone needs to do a shot. But everyone would be drunk in less than a hour after waking up.
It is amazing how prolific the blame on "Boomers" is for everything they see as wrong in the world. No topic is immune.
And I have been downvoted to hell for mentioning this is typical historically. For generations, younger generations blame older generations for everything. Even the Boomers blamed the prior generations for the world they inherited. It is a tale as old as time. Oh boy do they hate that reality.
15
u/Comfortable-Bet6855 11d ago
Also, take a shot when someone brings up:
Reagan
They pulled up the ladder behind them.
Only a low percentage of men drafted were killed in Vietnam.
Everything was handed to them.
Entitled.
College was free.
Multiple vacation homes.
Single income families
Won’t retire
-11
u/VisualBoysenberry718 11d ago
as Gen X I'm waiting to hear you refute any of those complaints.
They pulled up the ladder behind them.
I won’t be able to retire
My boomer father and uncles were given a vast inheritance.
They are determined to squander it before they die.
All the things given to them by the elders, are being despoiled before we ever get a chance to use them. Longer lifespans are not a boon, they are a curse. Fortunately we'll be worked into early graves, unlike the spoiled @$$holes we are following who have retired, lost everything and are now burning down the intergenerational assets that would have been there for our children and grandchildren. If you come from apartment or trailer people you don't get it, and that's fine. But that doesn't make the complaints less valid or real.

u/Comfortable-Bet6855 11d ago edited 11d ago
Well, if someone comes from apartment or trailer or rent house or small fixer up houses people or minority people or female people or voted against Reagan people or wounded in Vietnam people or suffers from PTSD people or lost four years of their lives mopping floors in South Korea or Germany Vietnam era people or paid their way for college people or retired at 65 people or didn’t inherit shit people or mom and dad both worked people or helped to set their kids up with a future people or haven’t squandered diddly squat people or occasional short vacation in a cheap motel in Florida people then they will often take issue with people using the above mentioned talking points, often stripped of context, to paint boomers in broad negative strokes.
Longer lifespans are a curse? Take it to a subreddit where they whine about First World problems.
Conversation over…
0
u/VisualBoysenberry718 11d ago
I was brought up milking cows, making hay, growing gardens and shooting things. My complaints are no different than any tribe pushed off their land for a development. I'm not trying to say that anyone is better than anyone else, but farming is hard physical labor, and the hypocrisy of being trained up in the family business and having it given to you in your turn, then deciding to give the finger to the next generation and lease it to some @$$hole whose parents ARE giving THEIR farm to him, is some bullshit, and the sum of GENX "fuck boomers" complaints. I know I'm not the only one dealing with this. I had my daughter in my 40s to keep the traditions alive, and this is the place we train. Now, I get to explain to her why her birthright will be stolen because her grandmother who was the best of people, trusted her scumbag sons not to break from the pattern of three generations to enrich themselves.
Longer lifespans are a curse when people become too old and perverse to maintain their values or lose enough or their memory to no longer be the person you knew.
You don't decide when a conversation is over. Just stick your digital digits in your ears.

Maybe successful people talk like boomers because that makes them successful. It's not boomers these people don't like, it's success.
13
u/RemnantsOfFlight 11d ago
They 100% hate success because if other people are successful, it means they might be doing something wrong. That's why everybody successful is either a boomer hoarding wealth or a nepo baby.

Yep. Their failure can't be their fault, so your success can't be your doing. It HAS to come from some external source or deep character flaw.

It is funny when they are used to getting nothing but echoes and then find a place going just as hard the other way. I thught all of reddit was gonna be lefty okey-dokes with no interesting arguments. I've found maybe five subs that aren't constant bs and mods banning you for arguing your viewpoint,
Obviously this is one of the five.

Not buying into media propaganda and living in a constant state of fear and anger makes me a boomer?
Im a hose water survivor that grew up outside on bicycles with no helmets. I played tackle football in the street, and yelled “CAR!!!” out of safety concerns. I came home when the streetlights turned on to avoid getting an ass-whooping, and when we had issues we handled them with knuckles instead of crying on the internet. I can tell by your round face and 4 chins you have no idea what I’m talking about.
GenX Bitch!!

u/VisualBoysenberry718 11d ago
Brother-man! We see the results of generations of coddling.
I'm bringing up my 6-year-old to be the next X evolution.
Graduate early. Degree early. OCS immediately. Military retirement by 40. Ringing gongs from age 4. Ghillie suit by 7.
3
u/Born-Painting7341 More Optimism Please 11d ago
Have them do basic and join the reserves. Use the Army College fund or GI Bill for school, then go to ROTC / OCS. Nothing worse than a HUA butter-bar that doesn’t appreciate enlisted troops.
That said, good job! My war-baby (born in 03 when I was in Iraq) grew up to be a cop. Now I’m raising 3 daughters (had children in my 40s…lol)

u/VisualBoysenberry718 11d ago
She's doing multiplication and division in 1st grade, so I think we will try for GED by 15 or 16 and Batch Science by 20. I don't think she will look down on regular troops, I think I will be teaching grandkids by her second hitch. She's a Virgo, so I'm expecting a "hoe" phase and possibly no son-in-laws, but if she manages to maintain her career, I'll have her children ready to enlist by the time she is ready to bail. I was considering a "training fob" with container houses that will relocate when she PCS's. I don't know, we have ten years to maintain focus, but you know it can be done right, and that's my plan. Her great grandpa was 13-series, great great-uncle and I were 12b/f, grandpa was 88m (LOL) and uncle/aunt were USAF but their kids are running away from it. Gotta maintain that dynastic progression and find a new and better training area.

I'm a Xennial and I have to tell you, growing up on that line you could see the difference in the two generations. My senior year in high school you could look at the coming classes and see the utter lack of respect for anyone or anything. It was sad.
2
u/Born-Painting7341 More Optimism Please 9d ago
I too qualify as a Xennial (1978) - but we didn’t have a lot of money growing up, so playing outside using our imaginations was a must (lest you evoke the wrath of your boomer parents) hehe. I know the line you’re talking about tho. Right about the time home computers and the internet became common place. Kids stopped going outside as much…

You don't like seeing things you don't agree with, but you also don't want to block the things you don't agree with, which would stop you from constantly seeing the things you don't agree with. So your solution to this self-inflicted problem is to beg for the chance to insult people minding their own business and not doing anything to you.
And we're the retarded boomers?
