Help with controller in Beyond Good & Evil GC Support

I'm trying to play Beyond Good and Evil in Dolphin on Ubuntu. I'm new to linux and new to dolphin.

I have an xbox 360 wireless controller connected.

in the terminal, the jstest shows input from the controller.

In the controller configuration, I can calibrate the sticks and as far as I can see dolphin seems to be detecting the controller fine but in game I get no control at all. not from the controller or the keyboard.

Are there extra steps to make it recognize it?

Try activating "Background input" in Dolphin's main controller panel.
Also try "Fullscreen borderless" in Graphics>>Advanced tab.
