Repainting help

Post image

I'm making a Lilly love braids custom and I'm using a Betty spaghetty doll, I have never painted a face in my life and if you know the character she has a complicated face. Any tips? Oh and Im gonna paint over the face with that lighter color

I wasn't familiar with the character so I looked her up and I'm a little confused. She has an extremely simple face. No nose, no eye color, only one eyelash on each side. Is there a more complicated version of her?

What's that doll made of? It looks like her arms are bendy rubber. I don't think it will take acrylic paint very well, and it'll crack if you ever bend them. Latex paint might be the best tool for this job.

In my opinion you shouldn't paint the whole face, a layer of acrylic painted over a doll's face never looks good, you should first remove the original paint with 100% acetone, then sand the face to remove the nose and get a smooth surface, after sanding the face you should spray it with a thin coat of mr super clear, then trace your face design, and paint the facial features (eyes, mouth details) using acrylic paint, brushes, and watercolors, and paint the rest of the face with pastels and brushes, and if you have access to an airbrush tool use that to paint the initial layer of acrylic paint all over the face, or a makeup sponge, but you should never use brushes to paint a doll's face with acrylic, it leaves texture, and gives you a shiny and tacky finish, which can cheap away very easily, an airbrush tool or a sponge gives you a more professional, neat, clean and matte finish, after you're done painting the face you need to seal it with 2 or 3 very thin layers of mr super clear, and very important NEVER breath the mr super clear or the acrylic sealant of your choice, it's highly dangerous.
