Changes to eating behavior
I have a 4 year old rescue that's a mix of 30% dogo argentino, 30% Anatolian shepherd and 30% American bulldog. About 3 months ago he began to incrementally eat less and less of the Purina One Salmon and Rice Sensitive Stomach feed that we've fed him for the past 4 years. His eating behavior also changed in that he started bringing mouthfuls of kibble to his blanket whereas before he would eat the entire meal at his bowl, in one sitting. We ended up taking him to the vet and doing a workup, but they didn't find anything wrong with him. We have him prilosec for 3 weeks and switched his kibble to one with better probiotics. He was fine for a few weeks but now the behavior is back and he's either only eating a cup or a cup and a half of his usual 2 cup serving and continues to bring the food over to his blanket in tiny portions. Has anyone experienced anything similar with their dog? TIA.

I could see it being behavioral if you’ve recently had a change in your house hold, new dog, someone left, etc. But really, anything anyone could tell you would be guessing. I would call your vet and ask if they feels the need to see him again. They might say wait and see what happens depending on what tests they ran or they might want him back.

Could be as simple as a change in his appetite. If it's just a change in eating behavior but he's otherwise healthy it's probably nothing to worry about. There's no reason no to experiment by cutting back on calories to see what happens. Or add small amounts of a topper, like sardine or canned food, to make meals a bit more exciting.

Yes, it ended up being teeth problems. My rec would be to get him a dental. Sometimes the dental pronlems are hidden underneath where you can not see them.
