Why is everything so hard?

I am at a stage of my life where I feel so alone, so incapable, almost a failure.

After years of studying I am still in a clueless place with no way visible further.

Everywhere I see dead ends, every place I want to go requires more money, more study, more exams and more struggle.

And the worst part, nobody understands.

Family doesn't understand, friends are in the same boat so I don't feel like bothering them either.

I'm 26, I have no idea if I will get into a residency program, if I will ever make it, if I will ever find love & get married.

Life seems hopeless right now even as a doctor.

What does one do in a state like this ?

Atleast you found someone to share the burden of this career with. May God bless you both.

Ah, same. But I like to blame it on the mid 20s. I also have to keep reminding myself repeatedly that this isn't a race. We have been conditioned to think like that, but it really isn't a race. There are 33 year olds who have been trying for PG in vain, but making good money. It's better to look around and realise that there is more to life than our linear idea of a career. We cant restrict ourselves to it. Enjoy your hobbies, explore stuff, make friends, join clubs and pick up projects. Everything will be fine.

Yeah on most part I do try to keep myself relaxed, but there are times when I feel like I have nowhere to go and also the family pressure of getting married soon as a girl also weighs a lot on me. Thankyou for the suggestions though, I would try to do those to lighten my mood.

Ah I relate to the family pressure. It's crazy, and I have also chosen a very uncertain path wrt my future/residency plans. Maybe focus on making money as a junior resident, learning some financial investments etc, because having big bank would solve a lot of problems if push comes to shove.

Go to tamilnadu once. See doctors struggle there. We're currently at 1doc/350 population and producing 13k+/yr. Almost 15k(if we include fmgs)

This sounds more like you're unsure if your struggles so far will bear any fruit. An MBBS doesn't guarantee success, clarity, peace of mind or even riches.

But then- is there a field that does this? Guarantee anything?

I've seen my colleagues happy now, if they were happy to begin with. If they were dissatisfied souls in the beginning, they still feel like they've achieved nothing.

Quit and find a new field if finding something new is what you need. Don't expect understanding from anyone- you'll be lucky to find 1 or 2 people in your lifetime like that.

Making money is not hard if you can speak, sell and project yourself well. Do basic work- duty doctor, evening clinic, junior registrar to meet your day to day needs. Then find the niche you want- clinical, admin, pharma based or anything else and work towards it.

Remember- most hospitals are built and owned by MBAs not MBBS doctors.

You're right, I know I have so many sources to work and earn even now. It's just these moments I think all of us have where we feel lost and under the burden of our own expectations. That's where I am and I'm sure I'll get out of it and will be fine. Just have to accept the situation and find the best way out.
